ticklish (could be anyhow) wedding tradition

a coworker was telling me about the plans for her daughter’s upcoming wedding today. among all of the usual stuff that goes into a wedding... she mentioned a tradition called ‘stealing the bride’. I had never heard of this. I guess what they do is... a group of men (friends and/or family) ‘steal’ the bride for a couple of hours. I am told this is done so that she can’t worry and fuss at how the reception is going. I guess they usually take her to a bar for a drink. somewhere away from it all.

anyway... here’s what I was thinking while I was listening to her explain this tradition to me (like you haven’t guessed already ). I started thinking about the upcoming wedding of TMF’s own Mimi and Lazarus and how much fun this little tradition could be in certain company lol. it would certainly accomplish the goal of keeping the bride’s mind off of who is sitting with whom and how the in-laws are getting along with the black sheep of the family!

yes, I need help... and yes, my mind does tend to wander.

Yes Ayla, we have that tradition in Germany, too. The bridegroom has to pay for all the drinks the 'bridenappers' have consumed until he finds his bride...

I've heard of another quite interesting (possibly ticklish) wedding tradition in northern Morocco (with the Berber tribes): If the bride acts somehow bashful or reluctant before the wedding night, her relatives tie her up on the bed. And the bride is supposed to act that way (she is 'innocent', after all), so that she can be bound for the night. Her husband is supposed to give her the gentlest treatment he can master at the sight of a helpless girl, but he can explore her whole body at his whim...

Seriously, Lazzy and I have discussed many "ticklish options" that he or I or both of us would like to sneak into play during our ceremony and reception. I do know he already intends on removing my garter for the garter toss with his teeth in a very ticklish manner, complete with nibbles from my inner thigh down to my toes, followed by a "as long as I can get away with it before I am kicked across the room" foot tickle. Little stinker he is.

You should have seen the gleam in his eye when he read your post! He's all for it as long as one of them (likely his brother, who will be our best man) is equipped with a video camera to capture it all on film. EEK! Perhaps I best stay home that night.

This is why I dig you so much, Ayla! How about this...instead of that tired old "dollar dance" tradition, wedding guests can pay a dollar to tickle the bride for 30 seconds. I think a lot of folks would leave the reception flat broke...

Well, that could be good OR bad, Dave...

While it'd certainly give the new couple a hefty nest egg to start their honeymoon and new life together with, it could potentially exhaust the bride to the point where the groom would have a less-than-memorable honeymoon 'consummation', if ya get my drift. (either that, or she'd be so wound up by all the tickling, he'd end up in traction the next day...)

As an aside here: I made sure I tickled Mrs. toyou's foot during the removal of the garter (like she was surprised...lol) and also mamaged to tickle every one of the brides maids and about a dozen guests as I floated around the room at the reception. Only one was caught in a picture, but you can't tell other than the strained smile on the face of my friend. Most of the tickles were on very drunk cousins...lol...so the reactions varied, but the brides maids, all of who I knew well before the wedding, were all extremely ticklish and I got a good jump and giggle out of all of them.
