The typical Memorial Day weekend is filled with yardwork, cookouts, relaxing, and spending time with good friends and family. This weekend kicks off the entire summer it seems and after the especially cold and long winter we had, I know I was especially looking forward to the start of summer.
This weekend was very busy for me because I was finishing up all the packing and cleaning for my old apartment and getting things ready at my new place.
The positive aspects of this weekend were:
*Going to see "Thor" which was AH-MAZING!
*Going to see POTC 4: On Stranger Tides...which was an excellent fourth installment to the Pirates movie series.
*Hung out with some of my good friends that I haven't seen for a while and ate some delicious Mexican food!
*Got to visit with my mom for a bit and eat at an awesome new and trendy downtown restaurant and pub...and had the most DELICIOUS cherry vodka flavored cocktail ever!
*My sister went to the beach in NC with some friends and her boyfriend. I was happy she was able to get away from home (and the nearby hospital where she gets her chemo treatments) and spend a few relaxing days on the beach and eating delicious seafood.
However there was a wrench thrown into my otherwise eventuful and fun weekend.
My best friend's sister (who I have known for years and consider a good friend as well) was found passed out on the ground, eyes rolled up in her head, at about 1:30 in the morning by her Mom. She and her sister were visiting their mom for the weekend.
Apparently she had been complaining of feeling sick and was taken to the doctor on Friday, who gave her a shot to help with her sick stomach...but then her Mom found her Saturday night in such a horrible condition.
She was taken into emergency surgery at about 4:30 AM...and her spleen was removed. Her spleen had actually burst and her belly was full with over a gallon of blood.
They told her mom it was a miracle she'd found her when she did...because if she would have found her even an hour later, she would have died.
This is very scary to me, because I feel like a lot of people around me that I care about are getting sick or something medically bad is happening to them.
I am just grateful for my own health and the health and happiness of those around me.
My sister is doing well. Her hair is falling out in large clumps now...she plans to buzz it all off in the next few weeks or so.
She actually is eating like a horse now, but her metabolism is excellent so it doesn't really affect her weight at all.
She sleeps better and breathes better as well. I feel very blessed she is doing so well.
So thank you for all the prayers and kind energy you have been sending my way and my family's
Please keep my friend's sister in your heart and prayers as well! She will be released on Thursday...and is supposed to make a full recovery.
Enjoy the rest of your week and god bless
