I broke up with the boyfriend yesterday. It's been almost three years. We've been through a lot together. Seems like we had so much in common at one time, but not so much anymore. We were best friends, but things were falling apart and we pretty much agreed that it wasn't fair to either of us to continue the relationship.
It's bittersweet; a relief to not be with anyone right now and to be able to let go of some of the emotional bullshit, seeing life in a new light, and yet I'm sad that I may have hurt him, that this part of my life is over, that I will feel lonely at times.
I will remember him and the relationship fondly, though, despite our problems. He was my first love. I have no regrets.
So despite the slight twinge of pain, there is still a song in my heart.
"And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make."
