Yesterday I was chatting to a good mate of mine before the first exam of my final year in college. To fully understand this guy, you have to know him, he's a complete nut, a great guy, but silly, so very, very silly. For example, he's almost proud that he failed out of first year college, in less than two months, the last time he went.
Anyway, we got to talking about the exams, and he told me, with the utmost confidence that, not only was he going to fail, but he'd spent most of the study week getting drunk and/or high, while watching Father Ted and Black Books. I've got to tell you, that impressed me, a lot. Not because he intended to fail an exam, but because he justified it by assuring me that it would be easier to just study the material next semester and sit the exam during the summer, without doing any of the other coursework. So I looked it up. Apparently, if he does well in his make-up test, failing the module the first time around wont screw up his GPA.
This got me thinking; surely this rule can't just apply to science! So I looked it up, and sure enough, all of those nasty little essays I spent the last two years writing, completely pointless. I could have opted to 'fail' the module the first time around, and just sat the make-up tests a few months later, without ruining my GPA. Isn't college fun? I honestly wonder why people bother doing any work at all... you're rewarded for not working... my head, it hurts so very much just thinking about it.
Things are all that bad, for this year, I have about, six exams instead of the usual twelve, and, believe it or not, we can thank the recession for this. In what I can only refer to as the money saving - and time saving move of the decade, the university has decided to cancel a large portion of exams for final year students and replace them will extended essays. So, instead of renting the exam halls from the government, the university is cutting out about a third of the exams (from my department anyway) altogether! Sometimes I just can't believe my luck.
Moving on, this crappy little laptop is starting to grow on me. Sure it doesn't function particularly well, and sure, it frequently stops working, but hey, it saved my ass from the fire when I needed it to. Alas, nothing lasts forever, and soon this tiny little bugger shall be replaced by a new desktop... and possibly my laptop... if I ever get it imaged.
All in all things are going well. College is grand, rugby is as fun as ever and I'm looking forward to getting a computer that I can install instant messengers on to.
