In the current NHL , a regulation game is 60 minutes ( 3 periods lasting 20 minutes a piece ) & the winning team is awarded 2 points in the standings. The more points a team acquires , the better its chances of advancing to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

If both teams are tied at the end of regulation , they each earn a point in the standings & the game goes into overtime. If the score is still tied at the end of overtime , the teams determine the winner ... & who will be awarded the full two points for the victory ... by going to a shootout.

Since the game tonight went to a shootout , the Sabres got a 1 point towards their total in the standings & their opponent ( the Colorado Avalanche ) got two points for winning the game.

At least they got a point for this game , though , since it went to a shootout. Being down by two until well into the third & then eventually tying it up ... all while playing w/their backup goaltender ... they did well to just earn a point , so it ain't all that bad.

But I'm doin' alright tonight. How 'bout you , my dear?

Why would you apologize? You've been vera nice and its vera appreciated.

Message boards are a tricky little beast. Its really cool to find people who are into the very specific things you are. We're all here b/c nobody else wants to talk about "this" or "that" in real life, so folks are more willing to admit to the strange things they love b/c they don't have to deal with someone making fun of them.

Then we hide behind screen names, avatars, signatures, and just whatever way you choose to make yourself. (Like patronizing well meaning people by calling them "luv" or "hon" all the time.) It gets very easy to be quite mean to people you do not know if you are able to hide behind a digital mask and not be made to own up to your actions.
