Ok, eventhough my Kings still didn't make it, I would like to know what you guys think of the first round matchups? Here's what I'm thinking:

WEST:
Sharks over the Dicks.....oops, I meant Ducks 😉 The Sharks have just been the most balanced powerhouse in the west all season. It hasn't been there for the Ducks all that much as compared to prior seasons.

Wings over the BJ's. I just think that the Wings' experience is going to win out here.

Canucks over the Blues, although the Bluse have had pretty solid goaltending, which is what helped them get in the playoffs. But then again, the Canucks have Luongo, who's been playing well all season.

'Hawks & Flames. Not sure about this one. The Hawks have had some great offensive scorers this year but at one point during the regular season, Flames goalie Kiprisoff was the 3rd best goalie in the league as far as wins, so this one will be very interesting. I think this one may go the distance.

EAST:
Bruins over Canadiens. Tim Thomas has been huge in goal for the B's this year. This one will be interesting to watch.

Caps & Rangers. Another interesting one and honestly, I can't really call a winner in this series. Much like the Flames & 'Hawks series, I think this one may go the distance.

Devils over 'Canes. 2 words for ya: Martin Broduer.

Pens & Flyers. All I can say is that there is going to be some rumbling in the state of Pennsylvania!!! I think this one may go the distance as well. Two super talented offensive teams and Biron has played well for Philly in net.

I can't wait to get it started this week!!!!!!!!!! Who's with me?? Let me know what you guys think!!

GO FLAMES!!! ... See Falcon, I knew you would see the light about the flames, eventually :neenerneener::doublethrust:

Sharks over Ducks. No brainer

Don't count out the Jackets just yet. Mason's talented and that team is young, talented and hungry. That series could be more competitive than you think.

Canucks will beat the Blues if the offense does their job and Luongo stays healthy. If Luongo folds, the team folds. Vancouver should win, but as with the Jackets, don't count out the Blues.

Calgary and Chicago will be crazy. If Kipper stays true-to-form, the Flames should win. Chicago will be dangerous in a year or two, but I think it's too soon for them.

Bruins will crush Montreal. Maybe in four.

Washington and NYR has potential to get rough. Washington should win, but Lundquist is always a factor and NYR's offense has talent enough to put down Theodore.

The Devils and Canes will be a good series. Brodeur doing what he does best could steal the series, but the offense needs to show up too. And the Canes have not been a slouch this season at all. It'll be fun, for sure. 🙂

Pittsburgh vs. Philly is a huge question mark. It's size and grit against speed and talent. The big question is this series is Martin Biron. If he holds up, he could be a nightmare for Pittsburgh. At the same time, Crosby and Malkin need to stay healthy enough to play. Flip a coin on this one and hope for the best. lol

Still calling Boston and San Jose in the final. 😀

West

Sharks over Ducks

Blackhawks over Flames while people believe a year or two away for them, they did sweep the season series from them

Canucks over Blues

Red Wings over Blue Jackets if for no other reason if I don't pick the Wings, a certain someone from Bay City would tickle me to insanity

East

Bruins over Canadiens

Capitals over Rangers TF4F would love to see the Rangers go down

Hurricanes over Devils I don't believe that Brodeur had enough time to get the rust off, and the Canes can score...I do expect the series to go the distance however

Penguins over Flyers

I do expect to see a San Jose and Boston final

Brodeur hasn't had enough time to get the rust off. Let's see, he has 13-7 record since he returned with three shutouts. He has played 20 games since missing 50. He played in 31 games overall. Almost every year he plays 70 plus games. To be honest, that makes Brodeur DANGEROUS. Because he is not run down as he normally is at this time of the year. Rust??? Derrek Lee 4 for 28 seems a little bit more rusty.

I pretty much agree. The Sharks can be pretty weak come playoff times, but... They're going to beat the Ducks at least.

Don't count out the Jackets just yet. Mason's talented and that team is young, talented and hungry. That series could be more competitive than you think.
I think this could become one of the more exciting series to watch. Detroit basically lives on outscoring their opponents this season, and hockey is about being best when it absolutely matters. A few bad games for Dats and Hossa and anything can happen. Zetterberg has had a pretty weak year too if you ask me.

Canucks will beat the Blues if the offense does their job and Luongo stays healthy. If Luongo folds, the team folds. Vancouver should win, but as with the Jackets, don't count out the Blues.
I don't really have much faith in the Blues in this series. I give it to Vancouver.

Calgary and Chicago will be crazy. If Kipper stays true-to-form, the Flames should win. Chicago will be dangerous in a year or two, but I think it's too soon for them.
True, Chicago still has some developing to do, but since I hate Mike Keenan I'm going to say they'll still pull this off! 😀

Bruins will crush Montreal. Maybe in four.
I don't really know much about Montreal, but hey it's the Bruins so yeah...

Washington and NYR has potential to get rough. Washington should win, but Lundquist is always a factor and NYR's offense has talent enough to put down Theodore.
Actually I don't really think the NYR offence has clicked this season. Lundqvist has basically carried them to where they are now by saving the odd points in games throughout the season. Washington is going to win this unless Lundy stands on his head. (Yeah I'm a Caps fanboi but I still think this is going to be a pretty easy ride compared to some of the other match-ups)

The Devils and Canes will be a good series. Brodeur doing what he does best could steal the series, but the offense needs to show up too. And the Canes have not been a slouch this season at all. It'll be fun, for sure. 🙂
I give this to the Devils, but I don't really follow either of the teams. My knowledge is limited.

Pittsburgh vs. Philly is a huge question mark. It's size and grit against speed and talent. The big question is this series is Martin Biron. If he holds up, he could be a nightmare for Pittsburgh. At the same time, Crosby and Malkin need to stay healthy enough to play. Flip a coin on this one and hope for the best. lol
Geno is going to win it for Pittsburg I think, but Philly has looked good this year... Could go either way.

well well well, every year its the same thing "they're a young strong team and no one cant beat their speed or agility"

than year after year my beloved wings teach the youngings a thing or two about stamina and more importantly that experience wins the cup not mix mash of young talent with no one to groom them.

This year will be a great play off year especially since we do have some young talent who has learned a lot during the season

Other than the overall winner im in agreement with falcon bout round one

I WISH THEY SHOWED HOCKEY DOWN HERE!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a few games late, but I'm hugely psyched for this years playoffs. Lots of great stories, and I'm sure there'll be a lot of exciting hockey.

Out West I like the Sharks, Wings, Canucks, and Blackhawks. Canucks look like they have the easiest series of the four, and I agree that Chicago and Calgary will be a hell of a series. I think the Sharks have a fight on their hands too, Anaheim is a big physical team, and that could give San Jose a lot of trouble.

In the East, I see Boston, Washington, NJ, and Pittsburgh advancing. All four of these series look like fun to me... the Devils and Canes always play each other tough, Philly and Pitt hate each other, the Caps and Rangers have a lot of explosive elements between them and... well I don't know a lot about the Bruins or Canadiens, but hopefully they'll be fun to watch too.

For the conference finals I like Washington and Pittsburgh in the East and Vancouver and San Jose in the West.

I think the Capitals will be the East's rep, and to be honest the Sharks strike me as a team that's going to fall a little bit short, so I'll say Caps/Canucks for the Cup.

Alex the Great in six, anybody?

you know i was talking about the playoffs with a buddy of mine at work, who is from philly, so, of course, rooting for the flyers. maybe i'm a little late with this revelation, but it occurred to me that this is really going to be a goalie's playoff series. if you look at who the starters are for the teams this year, guys like broduer, nabakov, kipprusoff, habibulin (i know i spelled that wrong), thomas, price, osgood, luongo and so on. these dudes are just phenominal! i'm thinking maybe some low scoring games this year and to start, i haven't seen a game yet with more than 4 goals scored by one team. but then again, i could be wrong.....

for me, it's too early to call who i think might be in it for the cup. i wanted to say sharks and bruins, taking the series the entire 7 games, but now i'm not sure. with the rangers now being up 2-0 on the caps and canucks now up 2-0 on the blues, with luongo getting a shutout in the last game.......then you had the ducks blanking the sharks in san jose for the first game........strange stuff going on, i tell ya! nevertheless, the playoffs this year will be very cool to watch!

My excitement levels for Chicago sports:

5. White Sox win World Series - I rooted for them since they're Chicago, but I bleed blue.
4. Bulls win NBA Championship - Awesome, but we kinda got spoiled in the 90's.
3. Bears win Superbowl - Scream, high five, and then go to the bar and get drunk.
2. Cubs win World Series - Everything will stop, I'd probably just sit there in shock before going to the North Side for the week long party.
1. Blackhawks win Stanley Cup - Tears of joy as they skate around holding the cup.

This years' playoffs are possibly the most physical one I have ever seen. The Canucks\Blues series and hawks\calgary have been nonstop scruffs.

And on that note

Here come the Hawks the mighty BLAAAAACKHAWKS!

series now tied at 2-2! this one is going to go the distance, i promise!

damn I thought hockey took a nose dive?! Hasn't it's support been decreasing massively since the late 90s?!

Man do i miss watching the CAPS and the best hockey fights ever (old school video tape)

...what a throw back

The sport has been revived since the lockout when they made rule changes and etc. Chicago's market has been massively revived, most due in part sadly to the death of the Owner last year.

that makes 3 sweeps so far? boston, vancouver, detroit? am i missing anyone?

I know I said the Bruins and the Sharks but now I think its still the Bruins but will see the Ducks
