Potential Huge Snowstorm Coming For Mid Atlantic-North East

Another major snowstorm seems to be in the works for Friday night and Saturday for the interior and coastal Mid Atlantic and North East. While the Weather Channel usually does not commit to accumulations of snow until the last minute, one forecast I heard from Harrisburg, PA, which is about 35-40 miles west of me, said there is a potential for anywhere from 10 to 18 inches of snow. Right now, there is a large rain storm over Texas, and this is supposed to move east, and then up the coast.

This would be the second big snowstorm of the season. The forecasts say there is an 80 to 90 percent chance that this event will be happening, so it looks like a very snowy Friday night and Saturday for the mid Atlantic and North East.

Better for you guys than for us this time...looks like it'll mostly miss southern New England...damn!!

Actually, it depends on the track. A slight shift north and we'll get buried too. Unfortunately, they won't really know until it's happening. So, folks should keep watching for updates.

I love me some weather! We already have a winter storm warning issued for us. Giddy up! :bounce:

No watches or warnings issued here yet, but I heard two other forecasts at 11pm, one from Lancaster, and another from Philly. The Lancaster one said we could get anything from quote a "plowable snow", to something like what we had in December, which was close to a foot. The Philadelphia forecast said the snow totals depend on the track. One track would bring 6 inches to Philly and the close western suburbs, and another would dump more than a foot on Philly and the near western areas.

In any case, unless the storm unexpectedly moves out to sea, it looks like there will be a significant snow event beginning sometime in the next 48 hours.

I heard the same thing. I sort of have an addiction to the Weather Channel lol. And a mad crush on Jim Cantore. :faint:

The Weather Channel rocks, lol. My favorites there are Nicole Mitchell, Alexandra Steele, Heather Tesch, and Jen Carfagno. Tickling any or all of them, barefoot, in stocks, would be a dream, lol.

Of course, if I don't live in the area it's much easier to comment 😀

Just be safe, peeps. Be sure to have some water, blankets, batteries and a shotgun in case snow yetis get into your house.

I still think you guys are weather nerds. But I have to 100% agree
with the above statement. :boogie:

Oh I'm a total weather nerd. And aviation nerd while we're at it. I could be into worse things?

And Jim is just....mmmmmmmmmmmmmm! :jester:

Lol, I can only imagine the long lines at the grocery store tomorrow. People have to get their bottled water and toilet paper. Because that's what helps me out most in a snow storm............TP.

Well, A Winter Storm Watch has now officially been issued from Lancaster County. The NWS said that the potential exists for a seven to ten inch snowfall across the county. They said that depending on the track of the storm, there will be a sharp contrast in snowfall accumulations across what could be just a fifty mile radius.

Seven to ten is a formidable snowfall, to be certain, but, I remember that the original snowfall accumulation for the Blizzard of 1996 was six inches. I'm not saying that this storm is going to produce that much snow, but, sometimes the actual snowfall total can be far greater then they predict.

Mitch

Nice! They're estimating around 10 inches here but we shall see. That could change throughout the day.

I just looked at the weather online and for my area it said that most we will get *if anything* are snow showers nothing more . 🙂

I heard that whole global warming thing is supposed to kick in anytime now, so you may be spared yet. :fingerscrossed:

Weather nerd and proud of it! 😛

Right now, they're just talking about snow showers here. Unless the system shifts, which is still possible, we should be in decent shape. Nor'easters are so much fun. You don't know quite what they're going to do until they're doign it.

LOL I grew up in upstate NY...in the lake effect snow belt. This kind of snowfall was a normal weekly occurrence for us. We just watched to see when it was going to hit, prepared accordingly and went about our normal business. The only thing that ever really stopped us in our tracks was the blizzard of '92. But then, over 4 feet of heavy wet snow in less than 48 hours will do that.

I have no problem driving in all kinds of weather. I'm used to it. It's those who aren't prepared and don't know how to drive in it that worry me. I don't really enjoy playing dodge-em with other cars when they act like idiots and then start spinning out all over the place.

Oh....and I agree about Jim Cantore. He's pretty cool.

STOCK UP ON............

BREAD, MILK, AND TOILET PAPER.

This was the word from the local radio station here.

Those who have grill might want to be sure they're ready to use too. If the power goes out (which is likely for some), you can always use the grill to prepare hot water/food. If you need to be out in it, don't forget to have a full gas tank, warm blanket, boots, shovel (a garden shovel works better than a snow shovel on heavy packed snow), food & water with you. Last time PA got a big hit, folks were stuck on the turnpike for a full day when accidents shut things down and crews couldn't get it cleared. And if you DO get stuck, be sure to conserve your gas by only running the engine intermittently...and keep your exhaust pipe clear so you don't end up with CO poisoning.
