Potential Huge Snowstorm Coming For Mid Atlantic-North East

The latest measurement somewhere in "Lancaster", where ever that is, as of 2am, says we have 12 inches on the ground, and the snow is still falling heavily. They have now increased the accumulation predictions to between 18 and 24 inches, which would make this far and away the worst storm since I've lived here. With 22 inches or more, it would be the worst in my lifetime, surpassed by only the 21 1-2 inches I had when I lived in NJ in 1996.

So far, knock on wood, I've kept my power. As long as that continues, it can snow all it wants. The snow is very pretty to look it, but it's just incredible as to how much has fallen.

Oh, and more good news. The weather forecasts in both Lancaster and Philadelphia say there may be another quote "significant" snow storm from Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Got to love winter.

Mitch

So far, it's about 3-4 inches in my portion of the state.

Buckeye Chuck rules!!

Hmmm....wonder how Puxatawney Phil would taste with barbeque sauce??:jester:

The latest accumulation totals rank from a measurement taken of 18 inches in "Lancaster", to 22 inches at Millersville, which is about 3 miles from me. If 22 inches is an accurate measurement, then that would make this the heaviest snowfall in my lifetime, surpassing the 21 1-2 inches I got when I lived in Fort Lee, NJ, in the Blizzard of 1996.

The snow is still coming down moderately, and may do so for a few more hours, before finally tapering off this afternoon.

Mitch

STILL SNOWING!

We have at least 18 inches, the only thing I can see on my car is the antenna.:ranty:

22 inches and counting!!!! Our winter weather warning doesn't expire until 6pm and we're expecting up to 5-6 more inches before it's over. Holy shitski! We got way more than they originally said we were going to get and according to the Weather Channel, we have more snow than some parts around D.C. (14 inches where Paul Goodloe is reporting from at the moment in our nation's capital). The snow is halfway up my car now lol. I finally have power back on (lost it last night) and it's 56 degrees in my place. I hope it warms up fast because I'm chilly! :snow:

Lots of power outages and two of my friends, both new mommies, have no power or heat at the moment. One has a 10 week old and the other just brought home her newborn twin boys yesterday morning. Poor babies. 🙁

Lots of accidents because people are stupid. The keep insisting everyone stays off the road unless you absolutely have to or if it's an emergency yet people still venture out in this "just to see." I just saw on the news that this one lady was in an accident and was stuck and then starting bitching about how slow emergency crews were to go and get her. Um, she was on her way for a hair appointment. What an asshole. I'm sorry but if you go out into this shit for a leisure activity after hearing all of the reports to stay home, I'd leave your ass on the road too and work on taking care of real emergencies first.

I'm getting hit with the same storm here and they are pretty much shutting Philly down. I am in NJ and it is just as bad here. It was blizzard conditions at the shore. It's a good day to stay in and tickle someone. 🙂 Are you game Angel? 😉

Lol sure. Um, I can't get my car out of the driveway though. :flatstare:

THE SUN IS STARTING TO COME OUT.

But no paper delivery, and I heard that the mail will be delivered on Monday.

I think this is what they call sensational journalism. Wow. Just wow.

I can't wait for spring to get here. The only good that can come of this is potentially getting out of work on Monday.

Why do they insist on incessantly whining over things over which they hath no control? Unlike the Divine such as myself, they have no influence over these things. Does all the complaining helpeth them to stay warm?

Silly things.

*Divine Glow*

OK, that's it, dough boy! Everyone get your snowballs ready! Let's go get him!!!

My father lives in NY, and e-mailed me this morning to find out how things are here. He said they got nothing in Manhattan, which I find absolutely amazing. We get slammed here with over two feet, and they get nothing there.

I just went out to take my garbage out. The snow is pilled up. It looks like a snow mountain.

Oh, and Ann, good idea about what to do to Doughman.

"Throws huge snowball at Biscuit".

Bite Me, Biscuit!

There is a shitload of snow outside right now here in the MD. Funny story... last night I'm watching the news and they've got an expert on discussing the storm. His last name was Blizzard. Blizzard. At first I thought it could not possibly be real, but after I accepted that it was, I couldn't believe the newscaster didn't crack up laughing.

OMG Adam that is hilarious.

The name possibilities with that are endless. Makes me wonder if there's anyone with the first name if Snow. If that person could be called Miss Snow Bilzzard, this weather would be appropriate.

Oh, and just so people from NYC north know, I was looking at the long range forecast. It looks like the people that escaped this storm, are going to get a storm Tuesday night into Wednesday. Our area is shaded in light grey, which means flurries. Good. You guys deal with the snow for a while. We have enough to dig out from. Of course, we all know the track of the storm could change in four days time, so I cant get too cocky, lol.

This guy was Mel Blizzard. I freaking love that name! 😀

Now we might have to deal with more snow late Tuesday into Wednesday. :disgust:

I just saw that! Us too.....another snow storm is brewing. We officially got over 2 ft of snow here and there are 230,000 folks without power in my region. Mine went off for a while overnight but I'm one of the fortunate ones that was able to get it back on. We have to conserve water too because the plant where our water comes from experienced a power outage and the levels are super low. Yeah there's a shitload of snow and another kicker is the damn wind! Between that and the heavy snow, trees and power lines are down all over the place and being that I'm in a very hilly part of the state, some of theses locations are almost impossible at this point to get to in order to start working on fixing stuff. Lots of winding roads and forests over here. The turnpike is still closed too. Lots of cleaning up to do. Could be worse though. Some folks have up to 40+ inches of the white stuff. Mother Nature is a crazy woman!

Yeah, I saw that possible Tuesday into Wednesday rubbish for Maryland as well. Fun times, considering I'm at approximately 31 inches as it stands and I'm still not quite finished digging.

The reason things went from a huge dumping to next to nothing in such a short distance is the fact that the high pressure system was sitting off the coast up here pushing back. Picture it like misting your hose into a strong wind. The wind blows the water right back in your face. That's pretty much what happened here. You got what you would have gotten plus what we'd have gotten up here.

The next round is supposed to hit here Wednesday and clear out Thursday morning. But, it's not expected to be anything like what you guys got. You just got that combination punch.

Ann, I was just looking at the weather map on Weather.com, and the entire state of Connecticut is shaded in bright white, which means very heavy snow. The interesting question with this next storm could be the temperature. Temps during the storm we just had were in the low 20s for most of the storm, so it stayed all snow. The forecast temps during the next storm for CT and NY are supposed to be in the low to mid 30s, so it will be interesting to see if that means all snow, or a mix.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how the next storm pans out.

Mitch

It's now one degree here lol. Brrr.....I need to go and shovel this stuff but it's so warm in my bed. :jester:
