I have a question about Facebook that I would appreciate information on.

I know that on Facebook, if someone on your buddy list is online, their name will show up in a box on the lower right hand corner of your screen, with a green light next to their name.

My question is: When they go offline, does their name drop off that screen if they dont try to IM you, and, if their name continues to show up on your buddy list screen while they are offline, does that mean they tried to instant message you? In this case, the person's name came up, and they were offline, but there was nothing in the instant message screen.

If anyone knows, I'd appreciate if they could enlighten me. Thanks.

If someone tried to message you while you were offline then the chat window would pop up the next time you log in and show what they said.
 
Facebook chat sucks! now everytime you chat with someone its saved as a message between that person and yourself.

This person didnt say anything. Their name popped up on my im chat window, with no writing.

My understanding is this:

(1.) In the chat list, the green dot means that person is logged into Facebook and actively using Facebook; the absence of the green dot means the person is logged into Facebook but "idle," that is, not using Facebook functions and maybe not even at the computer at all.

(2.) If there's a message popup with no text in it, I think it could mean that you accidentally opened it by having your cursor over that person's name and clicking it without meaning to. My laptop sometimes clicks things without my meaning to, just from the weight of my hand on the outer rim.

But in any case, if the person had tried to send you a message, you'd see some kind of message, whether that person was still online or not.
 
not only would the text appear in the box mitch, but the chat icon on the top left would be lit up and have a number on it signaling that you have a msg when you were not logged it 🙂 hope this helps


and yes, they need to stop fucking with facebook....
