'Saturday Night Live' has been around since the Ford administration, and, for better or worse, it's provided audiences with a wide variety of talent, comedy and musical entertainment.

My favorite SNL shows are the early ones featuring John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Garrett Morris, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin and Lorraine Newman (who I thought was hot, actually).

Here is a site that will show you one of my favorite characters... you can also view many clips from the show here. Most of these are parodies on commercials. Enjoy! (It may take a few moments to download):

the church lady is one of my favorites...also dana's imitation of george bush (1) is hysterical...oh and i loved coffee talk. toonces is funny.

The only other cast besides the original that I really liked ws in the early '80's when Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscapo, Tim Kazurinsky, Mary Gross and Julia-Louis Dreyfuss were on before they were big.

Eddie's "Mr. Robinson" still ranks among my favorites. I'll never forget the episode with the drums.

"Know what dees is? Drums! Know where da drums come from? Africa! Know where dees drums comes from? Back-a Smoky Robinson's van! 'Mokey gonna be lookin' fo dees!" And that shit-eating grin...

Or the "Cancer-Spray" commercial. "Wanna go out on a date tonight?" "I'm sorry, I can't....I have cancer..." Twisted.

Back to Mr. Robinson: "Know what dees is? Groc-rees! Know how I got 'em? Some lady give Missa Robinson fitty cent to take her bags to da car. Missa Robinson like da job so much, he keep walkin' on home!"

I miss Eddie actually being funny.

Hell my favorite was the one where Kevin Nealon throws Jan Hooks over his shoulder and carries her off the set! It was a spoof with Robert Mitchum (God rest his soul) about a private detective agency and was in black and white. Hey anyone know of any other female cast members who got carried over the shoulder? I heard there were more.

Hmmm

Bill Murray has dxefinitely been the only member of the cast with long time staying power and relevance. I have to say that just looking at his facial expressions makes me laugh.

One of my favorite bits was the one where they had OJ Simpson in an announcers booth. He was doing the John Madden teleprompter thing with a play on the field. When he was done his marks said

I DID IT

I still remember almost pissing myself when I saw it.

So do I, Dave... so do I:

Tron, I remember that "I DID IT" sketch. I almost shit when I saw that! 😎

The I Did It Sketch..

Was one of the first sketches they did after they had that long drought where they weren't all that funny.
It's still one of my favorites because it was so irreverant, and I could imagine OJ doing something like that.

I remember that one! That skit is one of my all time favorites... good laughs from that one... tooo hilarious!

Another funny one was when one of the Baldwin brothers (I wanna say Alec?) was being interviewed on a radio show. He represented his family business, the 'Schvetty Brothers, and he was promoting their new product... Schvetty Weiners. The radio hosts were two very straight-laced women and the clever use of double innuendo was absolutely ingenious!

Another favorite was the Julia Childs skit, played by Dan Akroyd. Gaaaaaawd, he did that shaky shrill voice perfectly. Then when he accidently sliced that major artery on his wrist, the blood just kept spurting and spurting LOL But, being the consumate professional, he/she simply kept demonstrating the cooking technique, all the while the blood was shooting out across the stage.... I think I was stoned that night, so my concept of time may have been slightly schewed, but it seemed to go on forever... till she eventually collapsed to the floor... hysterical!

Anything from the first five seasons. Cheeeeeeeeborgiecheeborgiecheeborgiechipchipnocokepepsi.

My current favorite is Debbie Downer. I love the sound effects, especially the "Meow Meow!" when she does her line about feline leukemia. And it always kills me that there's no-one in the cast who can be in those skits without completely losing it at least once.

My favorites was Eddie Murphy doing Celebrity Bathtub Party with him as James Brown, another was with him as Stevie Wonder and Joe Piscopo as Frank Sinatra, too hilarious😛

Like Knox I'm partial to the first 5 years but there's been a few new ones that made me laugh my ass off. I liked
~"Michael Jackson on a Rollercoaster"
~when Maya Rudolph does Donatella Versace ("now get OUT!")
~ANYTIME Craig and Ariana are on to do the perfect cheer
~the ones with Jimmy Fallon & Rachel Dratch where they play the Boston high schoolers...

XOXO

Did they do any sketches with Blues Brothers, or just a few songs and the movie?

No.

However, the concept was borne on a special made to fill in the slot during the late summer Saturdays, on what the Not Ready For Prime Time Players did that summer (1978). A skit with Jane Curtin, one with Bill Murray, one with Laraine Newman, etc. Finally you had the one with John Belushi, and it was an eye and ear catcher: wearing the cheap, dark suit, the skinny black tie, and the porkpie hat, singing blues numbers. I don't really remember any instance where he and Dan did the Blues Brothers during an actual episode, though I could be wrong, and would appreciate any documented correction.

The next thing I knew, Briefcase Full of Blues came out in the Spring of 1979, muscling the Bee Gees' Spirits Having Flown and other mediocrities for space on the record shelves. Birth of a Legend, I guess you could say.
