I have a question to all of you open-minded TMF'ers out there....

Meems and I will be getting our Paranormal Hunters licenses within, I'd say, the next couple of years or so....
-----------------------------------------

How many of you out there believe in supernatural goings-on, and such?
-----------------------------------------

Meems and I really connected on this subject when we first met, and would like to make a serious hobby of it....

We have 2 videotapes, thus far, showing many things that cannot necessarily be explained "scientifically"-i.e. a black "foglike" movement, as well as odd goings-on at my old house....

We have a place near us, we plan on trying to get some pics of in the near future....

The Ed Gein Property....

Those of you who know your history should know this gentleman.

We live about 20 miles from where his house was....

But I would love to have a very frank, serious discussion about this, as this is something Meems and I are VERY passionate about, and interested in exploring further....

Any flamers, don't bother posting....

Lazlo

Most of the so-called "supernatural occurrences" are just unexplained witness's reports, some are plain fraud.

BUT that doesn't mean that all of them are false. I'm quite sure that our current scientific knowledge can't explain everything. More than 70% of the human brain is unused, and we can't explain why. I believe that parts of it are active in some people, causing telepathic or telekinetic phenomenons.

And I've experienced some pretty spooky things myself, at completely unexpected locations and moments.

So good luck with your paranormal hunting. Keep an open but still critical mind, then you may experience amazing things...

I am very open minded and whole heartedly belive in the paranormal. I have had countless experiences in the past to justify my belief and would be more than happy to discuss them and other topics related to the paranormal. One question though, how the heck does one get a Paranormal Hunters Licence? I will leave my usual sarcastic remarks and jokes aisde for now on this but seriously, how do you get one or how are you getting one?

Who is this guy you mentioned in your post?

While I have yet to see a FULL apparition(ghost)I have seen partial images as clear as a living human sometimes and I have witnessed unexplained occurances ie. objects disappearing and reappearing, objects moving and or being "thrown" accross the room, lights going on and off, doors opening, Television being turned on by "itself"... .

There is too much out there for there NOT to be paranormal occurances and other life too for that matter in the universe but THAT is another issue. While I am not a genious, I have an IQ of 136 and have been around and seen a lot in my lifetime or THIS lifetime at least and knowing that so little of the human brain is used, so to speak, I can only imagine if we had the ability to tap the power of the brain to its' epitomy!
The ONLY problem with the Paranormal andd those who practice it is that there are too many phonies out there and con artists or bullshit artists so it makes the genuine articles hard to believe.

EXCELLENT Thread..

I go to Gettysburg every year, sneak onto the battlefield after hours and go down to DEvils DEn and the Round Tops with my video recorder. I've seen some pretty damn good stuff!.

It's ironic you posted this because yesterday I finished my fire pit in my back yard, I had some people over for a fire and we told ghost stories until about midnight.

Edward Gein was the inspiration for ManHunter and Silence Of The Lambs.

Tron -

how can you sneak onto Federal historic land? isn't that illegal?

Re: EXCELLENT Thread..

OMG Tron~I LOVE this idea~how kickass!

Laz~Give us more, please. You KNOW I'm a believer! Maybe if y'all ever come out you can come investigate my house for the story behind the ghost that haunts our place~All I know is he's a man who died from a heart attack. What I don't know is why in one room of the house at night (one of guest bedrooms) I often hear what sounds like SEVERAL people having a cocktail party, it's very faint but I hear it a lot...
XOXO

I don't mean to flame, and don't hesitate to delete this post if I am, but I, personally have never gone in for ghosts, haunted houses, poltergiests, or anything like that, at least, I've never seen nor experienced anything that would make me think there were. I like to think I have an open mind, and have had many somewhat heated discussions on the validity of "The Amittyville Horror", with people who swore it was true. Still, if this is you're passion. and you believe, then more power to ya, and go for it. Actually, I'm hoping you do find something that will change my mind. Best of luck!

It seems as though religion is all I talk about(its not, it just seems like it), I've heard many ministers say that when the Bible says Hell is made of fire and brimstone, it is a metaphor, that in actuality Hell can simply be,well, not Heaven. If this is true, it's possible souls not in heaven are damned to roam the earth as spirits.

I don't know. My two cents.

Good for you guys. Although I'm not positive I've ever seen anything that couldn't somehow be explained away, I would never doubt my late grandmother. All my life I heard the story of how Miss Brewer came back to the house she lived in all her life. And let me tell you my grandmother went to mass every day of her life. I can't imagine anything that would make her tell a lie. Then to top it off, the lawyer who lived across the street claims to have seen the late Miss
Brewer exit my grandmother's house that same night, and went charging in to check on my grandmother. The people who moved into my late aunt's house swear she stood over their baby's crib regularly and were even able to describe her favorite bathrobe. Feel free to PM anytime if either of you would like more details. I'm quite fascinated with the subject, myself. Best of luck to you both.
Karen

P.S. Let's not tell pragmatic, practical, logical Pete I believe in ghosts. He'd just shake his head and pooh pooh me.:sowrong:

Steph..

I know, it's a great time, and hilarious how scared adults get. We're doing it again tonight.

Baron, yeah it's illegal, but damn the Emmitsburgh Road (I think) runs right down the middle of that battlefield. It's not like it's tough.

Last night I told the story Sears James told in the book Ghost Story (still the best scary book I've ever read, puts Stephen King to shame, then again Straub always was a better writer)

Tron

Is that the "Ghost Story" that they made a movie out of, like 20 years ago? I didn't know it was a book, but the movie scared the HELL out of me.

We told ghost stories around the fire as kids but it never occurred to do it now~I know what I'm doing next time I camp in the woods!
XOXO

Yepper One And The Same..

And just about the best Ghost Story ever written. It's by Peter Straub.

LOL I grew up damn near next to a cemetary, so I have tons of Ghost Stories. (Plus I love sitting near a fire, this portable fire pit is the best damn thing I ever bought!

A believer here a thousand percent

as my name attests to! 😉 I'm also a Wiccan an believe strongly in spirit energy and the fact that there are a LOT of things out there beyond our ken; we just have to open ourselves up to em. I've had paranormal occurances in my parent's house( my deceased grandmother returning.,.. witnessed by not only me but nonbeliever family and friends), 110 year old house of a dear friend( this is one malevolent spirt, let me tell you, and it DOSEN'T like that fact that my friend's wife is Wiccan and practices her rituals openly in the house) , and numerous cemetaries, including Christ Church Cemetary in Philly. Now that I will have a bit more time and resources( and have a decent car! 😉) I've thought about joining the ghost societies.

My friend has one pic he snapped in his house when his normally well behaved border collie went ballistic, yepping, trying to claw the carpet, snarling at seemingly nothing( this was in one of the upstairs bedrooms that people have REFUSED to sleep in) and as the temp dropped pretty suddenly my friend decided to take a pic with his digital cam. When it came out it showed that 3 orbs were circling the dog, one RIGHT in the area he was having the fit over. The same thing used to happen to first my parent;s Australian Shepard, then the collie they have, when the spirit of my grandmother would come around.

LOL I'm Irish and our family's always had a bit of "fey" blood in us and have believed in the spirit world. Now my bf on the other hand thinks I'm just a BIT dotty, but he's not one to step on other;s beliefs.

Ghostie.

Who went on a ghost hunt last night as a matter of fact, and saw some intereting ectoplasms and orbs on film(both IN my friend's house and in 2 nearby graveyards that date back to the 1700's)

Btw Laz, what;s your take on orb Photography

my fave paranormal site btw is www.ghosthunter.com

ok not to sound too ignorant, but this is meaning like all the haunted house stories you hear with all the wierd things happening?? There is a house I can't remember the name but a father and mother were brutally murdered and they made the house into a Bed and Breakfast and people are always making comments about the wierd things they experience but can never fully explain in that house....If I am off base just tell me to shut up

I believe that many things happen we can't explain...

Relatives from both the maternal and paternal sides of my family have had paranormal/unexplained experiences. On my mother's side of the family, such things include having visions, and experiencing the presence of ghosts. Interestingly, the experiences on that side of the family have always been attributed to signs from God being sent to tell someone something (the visions were of a religious nature).

On my father's side of the family, the experiences have generally been dismissed, although they have occurred. That side of the family, having come from Scotland (and a line, long ago, of witches), tends to be more pragmatic and practical; however, considering that the consequence of declaring oneself to be a witch would involve being put to death in a particularly nasty manner, I can't say that I blame them. 🙂

All of the above is my long-winded way of saying "yes," I do believe in such things. I also believe in God, and I don't think belief in one precludes belief in the other. 😉

funny lite

my mother is a devout Roman Catholic of Irish descent with more than a touch of the "second sight"( she has an uncanny ability to detect someone;s feelings and occurances) ... and she attributes my grandmaother;s visitation( and that of my grandfather, who returns less frequently) to God letting them "return"to comfort us in times of strife.

I'm not sure if we have witches in our blood, but I DO know that the females in my mother's side of the family( and the family's of Irish/Scottish descent.. 100% Celtic all the way) have exhibited some really uncanny sixth sense like tendancies( as do I). So far as I know I am the only "witch" in the family as of now( being Wiccan! lol😉 )

Very interesting, ghost!

The females on my mother's side of the family also have sixth-sense tendencies...and that includes me as well. 🙂

Feel free to e-mail me, if you like; I'm at [email protected]. 🙂

The "Lizzie Borden" House I think you are refering to...

Ed Gein, was the character inspiration for Psycho's Norman Bates, as well as for ManHunter, and Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs....

He dug up graves, stole body parts/skin from the corpses, and killed anywhere between 2-6 people, also using certain body parts- to fashion clothing...

A nipple belt, and painted vulvas, as well as an entire skin suit, complete with breasts, he wore on full moon nights, prancing about his yard....

He was sick, to say the least....

This happened 10 miles from here, during the conservative 1950's, no less....

But yes, we have done quite a bit of research into this over the last few months, and we have no intention of becoming "con artists", by any means.

We are doing this, because there is a Hell of alot of unexplained out there, and we happen to find it fascinating.

We wouldn't charge for our services, either....this is a strict hobby, and nothing else.

Most we would do is take video and notes for our own studying....

But yes, Ed Gein was the "Plainfield Butcher"....

Get this bit of irony....

There was a painted portrait of Ed Gein done in the late 70's/ early 80's, painted by none other than....

John Wayne Gacy.

For those of you not in the know, he murdered 20+ men and teenage boys in the Chicago area, and buried them in his crawlspace....he was put to death by lethal injection awhile back....

We're all gonna die someday, and damnit, I would like to know what's next, and as much about it as I can find out....

Any and all findings we get, we will more than happily share with those of you who would be interested....

Laz

And for what it's worth, my mother is Wiccian as well....

😉

Heh, you know the book "Ghost Story" by Peter Straub is sitting on our book shelf right now, but I've yet to read it? Guess now I've got the incentive I needed, since I'm constantly in search of the ultimate scary book!

Wow, I can not believe how many of you there are who share our open-mindedness AND fascination with the paranormal! It's been a topic that has captured and held my interest steady ever since I was a little girl. When Lazzy and I first met, needless to say we were both THRILLED to discover we shared the same fascination with it. Having a common interest in tickling was awesome enough, but to also share our second biggest field of interest was mind-blowing.

For those of you unfamiliar with Ed Gein: http://www.houseofhorrors.com/gein.htm

You can get the scoop on him there. Lazzy over-estimated our distance, though. His old farm (or least what is left of it) is only 8 miles up the road from us. Getting onto his property to investigate will be tricky, since there are "No Trespassing" and "Keep Out" signs posted EVERYWHERE around the land. One local paranormal investigator who took pictures of the property from the road captured orbs on the photos. That was from the ROAD. I'd love to see what we could capture from places deeper onto the farm. I know there are still some remains of his victims buried around on it. They never did recover all them, and in fact, never made too much of an effort to. Of course I'm not interested in that fact for the sake of exploiting his victims. My interest lies in the possibility of how much and what sort of spirit energy might still be trapped in that area.

As for getting our Paranormal Investigators licenses (as someone asked), there is an actual course offered by a college in that field of study in IL, and we'll be doing it that way. It's much the same as getting certified or licensed in any field. You take the class, study the course materials, and pass your exams. Upon passing the course, you receive your license. Actually, a good part of it is learning how to use investigative equipment (Electronic Field Meters, Thermal Probe Meters, Infra-Scans, Motion Detectors, Ion Detectors, etc), how to prove a case FALSE (and seperate actual phenomenon from wishful thinking), conducting interviews, and writing up reports for your own investigations, as well as the media. It's not just "Oooo, I've got a piece of paper that says I have the right to take pictures of places rumored to be haunted. Won't this be fun!" It's a legitimate scientific field of study.

Ghost, Steph, Tron, Lite, Shdw, Venray....Lazzy and I would LOVE to hear about some of your experiences sometime (Venray, I have a feeling you have some particularly interesting tales). Tron, I absolutely agree with you about the fun in gathering a group and telling stories to scare the crap out of each other. Even though I'm fascinated by all things macabre, I'll more than willingly admit I get scared shitless of all things unseen, fact or fiction..lol

Mimi

Also Try..

I know you're a King Fan, but if you like another version of a Post Apocalyptic world try McGammons Swan Song (one of the best books I've ever read)

Dan Simmons Summer Of Night isn't bad either.

Another super book is Carrion Comfort (I think by Simmons too, it's a mind bender)

I'll have to type up some of my experiences. I'm not sure if I believe but I definitely "believe" ya know?

Oops which story, the ghost ones, or the one involving feathers and crotchropes?

Another instance....

We had a massive house fire on June 9th, that ruined most of one of our kid's bedrooms, as well as her clothes, furnishings, etc, and almost killed our oldest son....

When I pick my kids up once a month or so, they get to choose where they wish to sleep, and my oldest son wanted to sleep on the couch in the living room.

A couple nights before the fire, a painting I have of my grandmother, who had died back in 1977, and which was hanging in our bedroom, started moving her mouth, as if trying to speak....

This painting has done some funky things, some of which we have on videotape, but this was one of the weirdest to date....

Two days later, the fire happens.

Not ONE foot under the couch my son was sleeping on.

He was literally inches from death.

Meems and I got the kids and her parents out of the house before it went, but I feel something in the painting was trying to tell us something.

On video as well, quite a few months before the fire, we set up a video camera, aiming towards some stairs in the house.

We captured a black fog, floating back and forth in front of the lens....

Coming from the same spot the fire had originated from.

We were interested in the supernatural before that, but DAMN we dove in head-first after those things happened.

I discussed some theories with Meems about a "Spirit World", and our discussions have been fruitful, to say the least.

To dismiss the supernatural is to be close-minded and ignorant; but to attribute everything to the supernatural is the same....

There are explinations for some things that happen in life......

Sometimes, there are not.

We want to, and are determined to, find out about those that are not....

I, personally, have had encounters with the supernatural for MANY years now, since around 1992 or so.....

If you'd like, I'll get more into detail on those subjects....

You & family have guardian angel Laz! More! 😛
