There are a few threads on dates and times that happened for the 80's 90's and this decade. I thought I would make it a little more interesting and push it back from 1900 till now.


1900 May 23 - Sergeant William Harvey Carney becomes the first African American to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

1901 December 10 - The first Nobel Prize ceremony is held in Stockholm on the 5th anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death.

December 17,1903.From a beach on Kitty Hawk North Carolina the Wright brothers usher in the aviation age with Orvil at the controls of the Wright Flyer.

1905May 11 - Albert Einstein submits his doctoral dissertation On the Motion of Small Particles..., in which he explains Brownian motion. In the course of the year, Einstein publishes 4 papers, formulates the theory of special relativity and explains the photoelectric effect by quantization. 1905 is regarded as his "miracle year".

THE GREAT SAN FRANCISCO EARTHQUAKE occured on April 18, killing close to 3,000 people, leaving almost 300,000 people homeless, and costing up to 350 million dollars.

January 19th: German Zeppelins bomb English Cities of Great Yarmouth, and King's Lynn, for the first time and kill twenty people.
