Australian Collapse!

Australia are as bad as England are good. 477 was a very hard target to reach for Australia and it looks as though they will not be able to avoid the follow on. Maybe their second innings will be over by the end of the day!!! And why not! We could win this test today!
Tell me, if Australia fail to reach 477 in their two innings then do England have to bat again? Is their any precedent for this in a) test, and b) ashesh history?

217-9.

Those tail-enders are stubborn little buggers. It was 188-9 when I originally started writing this message. I even had to change the name of the thread.

As I write this the tenth wicket has fallen! All out for 217 and Australia fail to avoid the follow on chasing 477-9.

(Part of me loves the fact that non-cricket watchers won't have a clue what I'm talking about)

🙂

I do have a feeling that Australia will bat better in the second innings, and we may still have a bit of work to do to win the test. I hope I am wrong of course 😀

WHAT A CATCH!!! STRAUSS IS THE MAN

To answer your question UNI...........

.......if the sheep stealers HAD failed to reach England's first innings total in their second innings, then it would be an "innings defeat" for the sheep steelers.

p.s.. If you have any similar questions, which may give our septic friends the impression that not all red blooded Englishmen are up to speed on the basic rules of the great game, please PM me. We have to show a united front on issues of this kind.

Well England won!! 🙂 but they did make hard work of it in the second innings.

Gee, those Aussies are stubborn SOBs. Warne and Lee were taking wickets all over the place. Good thing had a small runs target.

All we need is a win or draw in the next test. Can't be too hard, can it?!

What a test match! I'm so glad Warne and Lee took 7 wickets between them as it made for compelling viewing. I can't wait for the final test of the series. It says a lot for the game that more people are watching the cricket than the football these days, apparently.
