23 TK sites to be lost?

I just learned today that GeoCities is closing down its free web hosting as of Oct 26th. (http://geocities.yahoo.com/) This is a move that will leave 22 TK sites without a home...unless of course they move things before the shut down. Many of them are older sites that haven't been touched in some time. But, it's still a loss. I plan to save each of the sites in their entirety before that happens. So, if anyone is the owner of one of these sites and you don't have things backed up, you'll be able to contact me for your site files. Sites effected include...

We found many a good site on geo back in the day...before they killed them that is.....But back then we took what we could get....

I remember seeing the "Erotic Tickling Gallery" for the first time and being so turned on.

Now I need ticklee's shot out of a cannon wearing a leopard print leotard, bare foot, one toe painted the other 9 not and I MUST SEE HER FACE!

Good news, folks! I signed on just now to find a PM from Jeff. (For those who aren't aware, he hosts the TK-411 website for us.) He suggested not only saving the files, but also preserving the sites as is on TK-411. Soooo....

I'll be saving the files as planned, attempting to contact site owners, and then putting the sites back up. They may or may not go live before GeoCities goes down. That will depend on how much time I have. But, they'll be up before too long, either way.

I used them for my original "Tickle Chamber" site at one point, too. They seemed great back in the day when there wasn't a lot of choice. In spite of the many drawbacks, it was a free service and made it possible for folks to share things that may not have been shared otherwise. I think I might actually profile them for the next Focus On Community segment. It will be a good lead-in for the new Archive section of TK-411. 😉
