4945 members...and counting

I noticed that the tally of TMF members is currently at 4945 (probably higher by the time you read this). Any ideas for a welcome gift for member number 5000? If it's a really good gift, I may have to re-sign up when the count hits 4999... 😀

And I can remember when we were getting excited in the lead up to 4000! That was only a few short months ago, so I expect this place will be huge in two years time.

Yes...but..

I'd like to go on a campaign and weed out all the inactive accounts so we have a "true" reading on how many members we have that are actually particpating...not necessarily posting, but at least with an active account, ya know? Q

Indeed Q, that would be good. It'd be even better if we could encourage more participation on the boards and in the chat room.

Didn't think so.

Inactive is in the eyes of the beholder. A lot of people just watch. Some people have accounts but surf on as guests. There is no way to know.

One month? Nah...I was looking for the ones with a year of no posts and invalid email addresses! 4000 non posters in a 30 day period is kinda...scary! Can't imagine going more than a week without having something to say...not necessarily something GOOD, but SOMETHING..lol! Q

On top of all that, a lot of people might hold accounts and only use the chat room. After about 8 months membership I was wondering why my TMF ranking hadn't moved. Then Myr told me it was only computed on how many posts were made; spending four hours and upwards a day in the chat room didn't affect it.

It's only been in the last 6 months or so, that I've started posting on the boards of the forum, but before that I was still an active member. (Indeed, quite a notorious member! )

When I started moderating last October, I did some informal research on ratio of men to women members, percentage of membership that is active, most popular forums for posting vs. viewing, and stuff like that. While it's difficult to measure chat participation, based on my observations it's one of the best places on the TMF to find women (the other best places are Stories and Tickling Discussion).

I'd love to see sopme stats like that EQ, just out of curiosity. Since the new chat room will require being a registered member of the TMF, I suspect that membership may soon jump dramaticly. It will be interesting to see if that's an accurate assumption.
