If a troll commits a troll while on American soil, they're subject to America's freedoms first (which, I hope, STAY freedoms) which includes freedom of speech.

I say that any forum that wishes to pad its members against trolls should implement an 'ignore' button to have each member personally block out whatever a troll posts. The best thing to do is leave it in the hands of each individual person and let them deal with it like a rational member of society.

Seriously... 'killing the internet'? That's just silly. Trolls only have power if enough people cave to their crap. If we let some government entity have control over what's said on the internet then we're no better than those people who would demand this site be shut down because it's 'unwholesome' or 'pornographic'...

Funny thing is that people's minds really don't seem to work that way, as number 1 makes some very good points on, public rallying and big corporate support will make this most likely a reality. But then again of course people have such a great reputation for being rational and intelligent😉

Certainly a little thing like manipulating fear and matyrdom have never been successful at manipulating people's emotions.

Yeah, I get the point... it's mostly why I'm soap-boxing a bit here. It's scary to think of how much people are willing to give up because of the most trivial things and that has me nervous as all hell.

To join in the sarcastic bits, though...

I sure hope that they implement that there system! I'm sure we can trust people in power to only go after genuine trolls and not abuse the position to silence any dissenting voices! No sirree.

Soapboxing is all nice and good, but in the end the one who's the most successful soap boxer is the one who's the loudest with the biggest box to stand on. And yes, that is an analogy for big media and the support of governments and multi-national corporations.

loudest and biggest, no wonder limp bizkit got so much acclaim over better talented musicians

you guys and your battle of who could care less

rock on with that fashionable frown, guys

the thing i don't get is why whenever someone disagrees with the majority of the people, they are automatically labeled a troll...

They aren't automatically. Trolling is when one intentionally raises ire on the Intarwebs.

If you start a thread talking about how you like penis-shaped candy bars and I came in and dangled flamebait in front of you saying that penis-shaped candy bars are only consumed by Republican *****s of Babylon who also enjoy kicking homeless Vietnam Vets who are dying of cancer...

That's trolling.

This is different from saying that I like candybars that look like poorly-molded chocolate female reproductive organs that have been worked into a climax of caramelly nougaty goodness.

ah i thank you Diamond Dave for clarifying that for me in such a vivid and descriptive way...

soo i can start a thread about how m&ms is the only snack food that should be consumed with beer and that anyone who disagrees has the right to as long as they don't then flame me by saying izzy you are so weird for liking such a strange combo of food..then attack m&m lovers...then begin a series of why beer makes for big bellies etc..and then start attacking those cute m&m figures..a troll is someone who constantly argues then..who just comes into a thread to start trouble..i get it now...

i only like thin crust pizzia also..

trolls are not killnig the internet. they are part of the internet. they're what makes it jsut a bit more crazy and unique day to day.

Yeah trolls have become a bit of a problem on the internet. Now I'm not saying running into one is the end of the world. Nothing in my opinion is better then running into one of those 12 year old trolls that tries way to hard to troll, and they just wind up failing horribly at it. They're so stuipd it's funny. What I have a problem with is the trolls that suck up to the people in power OR WORSE, obtain power. (My references do not reflect the TT or TMF, these experiances are related to my time on the GameFAQs boards, where posting once a day for a whole year can almost get you to be a mod.) Now I think that stuff like the programs to stop stupidity and such would be very neccessary. But I feel that the government shouldn't become involved in the affairs of the internet. If they did, just think about it, the American government couldn't stop a troll from another country, but they'd punish those who were trying to get the troll to leave. The system sounds good on paper for the government to take over, but it will just lead to massive censoring of the internet, and will turn our "Eden" if you will, into a desolate wasteland.
