Because little kids can get a LOT of aggression out and release a lot of kid-tension by pounding and smushing and rolling Play-doh (instead of each other), and they can make all kinds of cool shapes and such. And the smell seems to be soothing for them, from the original 1973 smell to the newer scented ones. I teach preschool, and when they're all cranky and feeling agitated (cold winter days indoors can be especially hard on little kids) Play-doh Time is a godsend. Along with Hawaiian Music Time
