Who knows whether any relative normalcy will return anytime soon? Could be a month. Could be several. Dovetailing with the other thread on why people aren't ceasing tickling activities (which also puzzles me, as I find the prospect of a ticklee wearing a face mask to be a visual cold shower), I also got to wondering about how the social distancing practice will affect us our community and beyond long-term. With the rise of ASMR, tickling spas in Europe, and "cuddling" therapists over the past decade, it already seemed like at least some people out there were craving to be touched beyond just the usual heavy petting and vanilla sex. Now this, and a new culture that pretty much forbids physical contact among strangers and those greeting others, a mentality that would seem to be affecting even contact with spouses/SOs. It's possible that our community, massage, and other forms of non-penetration touch could be embraced when this dies down a bit (at least somewhat over the summer). It's possible that people could become more open-minded about any and all kinds of touch. Or will society drift in the other direction---the "Demolition Man" direction that memes have touted recently--in which physical contact will be associated strongly with disease and dread? Discuss.
