A question about message boards

This one has puzzled me for a little while - what is the point of message boards (not just the TMF, but boards in general) having Buddy/Friend lists? I can see the point of having an Ignore list, but have never understood what the function of a Friend list is.

On many boards, you can see which of your buddies are logged in when you log in. Here, their names on the active users list have a + so you can spot them easily. Also, on some boards you can send a Private Message to all of your buddies just by checking a box to do so. 😀

Here, you can also access your entire buddy list and keep it open in a separate window. That window refreshes periodically and you can see who is online and who isn't. You can access that window from the Quick Links thingie right under your own screen name on the upper right of every page. We can also use it to PM our whole list at once if we want to. Spend some time in the User CP- there is lots of cool stuff we can do here.

I don't use the Buddy/Friends list, or the Ignore list. I guess I'm just too damn open and trusting for my own good. Or maybe I don't need to know when my pals are online? I fly by the seat of my pants when I'm posting here. 😛
