i was interested in watching alot more anime and buying some videos and such. what are some good anime movies/shows i should buy or watch?

I highly recomend Star Blazers I would see if you can rent that though Basically there are three different stories Each story is 13 tapes/DVD's It was aired back in the early to mid 80's The first story is The Quest For Iscandar
A planet called Gamalon is bombarding the Earth with radiation so the Earth sends out the Star Force for some cosmic DNA to remove the radiation They have to go to a planet called Iscandar to get it while battling the Gamalons the whole way

The space ship they use is the W.W.2 Japanese ship Yamoto (sp) Out of all the Anime that one is my personal favorite Here is a link to what I am babling on about

Gravitation

To add to the growing list here-

Love Hina, and Golden Boy

Also, otaku is what you would call an anime fan or fan of a particular anime series. Calling us "lovers" isn't good enough. It makes us sound weird. 😛

thanks, gonna start with inuyasha, lupin the 3rd, and trigun. the first 2 thanks to a great little thing called adult swim. anyone know where i can find that clip where a chick is getting tickle tortured in Lupin the 3rd? i was wanting to get into the Final fantasy series of gaming too, mostly wanted it for the story, not really into RPG games.

I really recommend Golden Boy if you want a good laugh. Its really funny. But make sure to watch the english dub version. Not only is it better, but the dialogue is more accurate and funny. 😀

Its 6 episodes, two volumes. I have it. Its a shame you don't live nearby. I'd let you borrow it, and the other series I have. ^^

I haven't seen either. I want to though. The Slayers is long though. Its 3 seasons and several movies, altogether.

Star Blazers! My God! I haven't seen that in like 20 years!

That was my favorite series! And I can't believe that the ROBOTECH series hasn't gotten at least Honorable Mention here! Golgo 13 is also gripping, as well as Crying Freeman, Blue Seed, and Space Adventure Cobra.

Was that Robotech series any good? Never saw it I did read the books in the late 80's when I was stationed in the U.K.

And speaking of adult swim, I caught part of that for the first time a couple of weeks back. "Doc Venture" is the funniest show I've seen in a long time.

I loved it as much as Star Blazers!

I highly recommend them! But I have to warn you, they're WAYYYYYYYYY more numerous, especially when you factor in not just the original storyline, but all the spin-offs as well. But great stuff, if you've got the time and willingness!

Cowboy BeeBop is another great one. That one really grew on me along with Dragonball Z and Lupin the 3rd. Trigun is really good too. The Preacher, and his last episode are excellent. He really mad that series.

Its Cowboy Bebop, to be correct. 🙂

And yes, it is a great one. I have the dvd boxset and the movie. ^^

The BGM and soundtrack music for this series is top notch and very well put together. Yoko Kanno was the music composer, afterall. ^^

The only final fantasy anime i have ever enjoyed was the earth crystals mini series on vhs. The new one they have is soooo bad.

If you get digital cable they have this channel called the anime network. they have alot of good anime there all in dvd quality.

For a different spin on mecha (Giant Robots), try RahXephon. Hellsing is always good for the darker, more violent side. I second the reccomendation of Golden Boy, it can me most entertaining. Lupin the Third, aka Lupin III, is an excellent example of old-school goodness. Azumanga Daioh is a different, wacky sort of funny.

And that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

I'd love to own...

...both the entire sets of Star Blazers and Robotech series, but I can't see dropping that kinda dough on cartoons! Yikes!
