I was watching a show not too long ago about how as a society, we are so "sue happy." Why has it come to this?

Simple. Because they can. All it takes is one idiot to file a frivilous lawsuit to win (like the dummy that spilled hot coffee in her lap) and that opens up the proverbial flood gates for copycats to make a quick, cheap buck. Just think how bad the representation must be to lose a case like that. That type of nonsense should automatically be thrown out.
