Well, after much thought about current chats concerning backround checks, I've decided I have no choice but to change my username here.

Anyone know how I might go about that?

You can contact TT and he can change it for you, but that might not make a lick of difference if a search engine is good enough to trace posts/similar posts. In this case, you're not creating a new account, just changing the name.

If you post the same types of posts to the same types of people, a person who wanted to look for you would still find you based on your previous activity. It would just make it harder, but they would have a trail to follow you with.

The only way to be protected is to create a new account, have this one deleted, have this thread deleted, have all your threads and posts deleted and ask people not to refer to you in the old way. You may even have to speak and type differently and not post in the same topics. If you do, a person searching for you will put two and two together.

You may even literally have to start all over.

You have to ask yourself if this is really worth it, and how damaging it would be for certain people to learn about this site and such.

I think it's much easier just to get those cats off your back than to disappear, which is what you'd be doing, in a sense.

Actually, because Google and other search indexes cache forum pages, even deleting all of your posts would not hide your screen name from searches. The best thing to do is use a different screen name on non-fetish forums so your history won't follow you around. Changing your screen name here might help somewhat but is not a complete solution.

Plus, you figure if people don't like you, and people ask around about you, they may help this person find you.

They may also just be trying to be nice, and will give this information and your cross-over and new account/s, not aware what this person's intentions are.

Even a mod could make this mistake by accident, supposing they aren't aware that this user is trying to hide, and they redirect them to the new account.

Valerie is right in saying that it helps, but it is not a complete solution. It's barely a solution at all when you figure in all the angles and ways people can identify you.

And thats just doing it on your own with search engines. :speechles

Well I'm not really looking for my existance to be completely deleted from all possibility of someone finding me, just enough so that if one of my friends googles my username, it won't come up right away or anything. If that is at all possible. I'm not worried about the same kind of thing as a background check. It's just mainly to keep a certain sense of privacy, nothing truely serious. :happy:

EDIT: Oddly enough, when I put my actual screen name on google, "-Kunoke-", I get nothing. But, if I just search "Kunoke", I get 3 or 4 results on the first page. I would have thought the first would yield more results.

Thats the thing though, it will come up right away if theres any kind of match, combination, or likeness to your SN or even just the posts related to it, through it, by it, etc. Thats what makes finding this information so easy.

That's actually what I was about to suggest too. It's what I do, and it's worked pretty well. I don't really have anything to hide, but with as sensitive a topic as the kind of things this community talks about, I'd sooner not take any chances. I'm not ashamed of being here. That's why I stick around 🙂 , but I know some people I know might find this place a bit odd.
