NOTE: Posting three threads in three forums was unnecessary. I've removed the other two. Give me a moment to compose something and I'll see if I can come up with a way to help you.

Not a problem. 'Tis painfull to be surrounded by media and unable to view it.

Alrighty, we have a few options. First, uninstall Realplayer. It is unnecessary. Other free, non-intrusive programs can do the same things it can without the hassle.

Second, lets choose a player for you. Media Player Classic (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm) is essentially a clone of Realplayer stripped down to do only the essential task of playing files. It alone may be able to play everything you can't now. However, if while installing it offers the option to install any codecs (How clips are decoded) for Windows Media, SAY NO OR UNCHECK THAT. If other Windows codecs are installed, Windows Media Player often crashes from there on out. Just pay attention when you install that you don't have anything checked that says Windows Media or similar.

Another option is the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm). This monster can play just about anything, from major file formats to ones you have never heard of and will never have to play. However, I don't recommend that you try this unless Media Player Classic does not work as it is much more complicated. If you do choose to or need to install this, follow these steps:
- After saving the installer, open it.
- Go through the screens until you reach one labled "Select Components."
- In the Drop-down box, select "Profile 5: Lots of Stuff"
- Scroll down in the box below the drop-down box and uncheck "Windows Media 9 VCM." If you do not do this then WIndows Media pLayer WILL suffer serious problems.
- Continue until you reach "Select Additional Tasks"
- On this screen, make sure "Windows Media (.wmv)" is deselected (It should already be).
- Finish installing and you're done!

Let me know if you have further questions.

ok now i have a major problem......I downloaded the first one...Media Classic player and I had to copy and paste the short cut to the viewer just to get the thing to play it....so I tried the K-lite Mega and now nothing will play...not even my regular stuff! I unchecked the boxes you said to but it tells me that theres a missing file to the download....bottom line....nothing at all works now. Im not sure if any of this is actually work the hassle.

HDS - why did you suggest installing something else, when Windows Media Player can play just about any media you might come across online?

I have one viewer, WMP, and it can play damn near anything. It's all you need, once you have installed all the relevant codecs to play all the file types. They can all be found in the Ace MegaCodecs Pack (can anyone find it? I'm doing a websearch and coming up with pages and pages of bloody ads at the mo').

Thanks koopacooper....now all I need to know is how to apply the relevant codecs to my present windows player.

I just realized something: You're trying to play the clips directly from the Theater, aren't you? Not downloading them first? For many clips on the Theater, you MUST download them to your own computer before they will play. Not all clips here can be "streamed" from the Theater.

Why, Koopa? Because I've had topo many issues in the past with WMP and additional codecs for it. 'Tis easier to install a separate program for me than to continuously fiddle with WMP and codecs (Pretty much was continuously. Never did find a good codec pack. Perhaps yours works, but I prefer K-Lite).

Oddly, I prefer WMP 9 to any other media player. I use it with Microsoft's optional codec pack and the K-Lite Basic codec pack for Divx, and it works very well for me. I also have Real Player (which I hate, but my ISP bundles it so I can't uninstall it) and QuickTime Pro, but neither is as nice as WMP.

Quicktime is handy for me (well, for .mov files), but RealPlayer refused to even boot up when I installed it, so out of the virtual Window that went. 😛

I use WMP 10 with the standard codecs, plus as many from Ace MegaCodecs as my computer will allow (it wouldn't let all of them be installed, but all the ones that could be, were). That does me well for everything, even RealMedia (which actually was a quite nice surprise). 🙂
