I was listening to the radio in my car this morning and caught a new AC/DC song from their freshly released album.

At first, I wasn't sure who it was but had a sneaking suspicion. The radio announcer confirmed it at the end. I was...nonplussed.

Some bands can get away with touring and releasing albums well past their prime. The Stones and Aerosmith come to mind. But some bands just have to know when to throw in the damn towel.

Now I have never claimed that Brian Johnson was any sort of Celine Dion or anything but he sure as hell wasn't sounding any better since their Ballbreaker disc back in the late ninties. Christ, he sounded like a deranged cross between an old man dying in a geriatric home and a sheep...Dying in a geriatric home. It seemed that the whole freaking band was playing at half speed as if their fingers would snap if they attempted anything faster.

When I was younger, my AC/DC collection meant as much to me as an expensive rack filled with wine to a rich man. I still don't mind Ballbreaker but consider it a fringe CD (and Fly on the Wall as well). After listening to that run-down crap on the radio, I think I'll just stick with the earlier stuff, thank you.

It really dosen't help that the CD is a Wal-Mart exclusive. Even if the disc was the greatest thing since sliced bread I still wouldn't enter that shit hole to get it (I boycotted Wal-Mart back in 2000).

Sure Brian Johnson's nose-whinneying singing voice has caused me to, on more than one occasion, scream "Jesus Christ! You've been at this for decases! Why the mother fuck can't you at least TRY to make an effort to enunciate?" at my stereo, but I still love them..And Brian too. I just don't see the need to torture myself with their last kick at the can.

Sounds like almost every other AC/DC song to me. But I usually tune out the singer and focus on the guitars. The band can still play. 🙂

Will it not be sold anywhere else except Wal-Mart? Ever? :idunno:

I heard "Rock and Roll Train" this morning, and yeah, it's sounds like the same thing they've put out since "Back in Black", although this one seems a lot more melodic.
At the same time, Ac-Dc never sold out for a Diane Warren power ballad or aimed for the pop charts.(i.e. Aerosmith) Nice to see an actual ROCK band returning.

Ah, I could never get past Angus Young's pasty-white legs in schoolboy shorts. The man's too bloody old to still be wearing them.

Yeah, he's 53 years old and will be wearing the schoolboy outfit on this tour according to Rolling Stone magazine. But I bet there'll be no whiney, depressing songs about how sad they are to be rich and famous....like every other current band out there today.

I have an appreciation for a few of their songs. Classics like "Thunderstruck" and whatnot. But man, I hate that outfit. Retire it, Angus. 😛

last good album of acdc , or would i say songs were ... years ago : money talks & thunderstruck , apart that i 've never wanted to hear anything new of them 🙂

classic Bon Scott era it TEH best !

and Angus "Young" ^^ rules whatever outfit he wears ! i'm sure if he changes people would say it does not suit him

I'd have to agree with the OP here.

AC/DC kicked ass in their prime, but releasing album after album of what is ultimately the same material is an excellent recipe for stagnation and making a laughingstock out of a once great band.

Havent heard the new stuff yet but heres some food for thought ...Flick of the switch was the first album where an f chord appeared on any song! Really they've been churning out the same stuff since 76! God bless em...Its only rocknroll...

Peace

I agree, to just play the same three chords and songs about shagging woman is nothing really new to Ac-Dc. But eventually ya need a straight-foward rock n roll band to come back when people are sick of manufactured boy/girl bands catering to 12 year olds. Or record company processed one-word divas like Fergie, Cicara, or Godzilla. I welcome Ac-Dc back....even more than some other band that does Bob Seger covers and whiney documentaries.

On the other hand, that's very true. I guess I still expect them to be as energetic. Perhapse my standards for them is a little too high.

Aerosmith DID go a little screwy in the late ninties early/early two thousands.

Consider yourself lucky.

In '97 (I think it was, anyway) they kicked off their "Ballbreaker" tour and ended up coming to my home town. A friend and me got tickets and went to see them.

During a long guitar solo Angus began to do a striptease...You should have heard the collective gasp from the audiance.

Not- mind you- due to the brazeness of the whole thing, but because after he was down to only his shorts, you got a full picture of how much the guy has aged...He had the body of a seventy year old man!!!

The big shock is that from what I hear, compared to the rest of the band, the guy dosen't drink at all!
