For the first time after my old computer crash 2 years ago, I was able to fix my SimCity game again. Now I'm addicted! I play it endless hours, it's so fascinating to me. Sometimes, I even dream of it at night! That used to happen with my tickling fetish of course, and when I fell in love with a girl, but a computer game?

For those who don't know it, a brief description: You're the mayor of some self-designed city. Your task is to make the city thrive, so you build residential/commercial/industrial zones, secure supply of water and electricity, organize garbage removal, keep crime and pollution in check, provide enough schools/colleges/libraries/museums/parks, develop mass transport systems, set taxes to balance the budget, and cope with all sorts of desasters (earthquakes, space debris, fires, strikes and uprisings, even UFOs). You decide about countless petitions from your citizens who belong to all kinds of special interest groups (enviromnentalists vs industry etc). You deal with the happiness of your citizens, their land value and their life expectancy.

Apart from that, you can create your own buildings in an architect program and plant them into your game. And there are many scenarios, like sanitizing Berlin after the fall of the Wall, or reducing crime in Manhattan.

A year ago, they brought out an advanced version, SimCity4, which is more 3D and slightly connected with "the Sims" game. My computer is too old for it. Not enough RAM, not compatible with the newest graphic gards, too slow.

Have we got any other SimCity fan here in our circle? I prefer this game because it's constructive, not destructive like most games.

Other fans you most certainly have. HDS is a old fan of the franchise. I started out with SimTower an ungodly long time ago, got hocked on SimCity 2000, and then just kept on buying the new versions, although I haven't checked out 4000 as of yet.

SimCity 3000 unlimited was such fun. Hours and hours of guiding the growth of the city. I never could get Subways to operate corectly, though. They either had no passengers or were overcrowded. lol It is a unique sort of game in today's world, one where the objective is to grow and prosper, with no side dish of conquest and attack.

One of my favorite parts of the entire game was watching the special buildings become availible as the game progressed. Casino, Space Port, Military Base, and so many others.

The only gripe I ever had with the game was that airports looked downright WEIRD ninty percent of the time, no matter how you shaped their zone. Runways all over the place and random buildings everywhichway.

Good times, good times...

I was hooked on Sim City when it was on Super Nintendo (you know, the one before 64). good God, how old does that make me seem lol?!

Sim City and The Sims always appealed to me because they didn’t have that ‘omg, I’ve got to leap-frog over this flaming pit of alligators before the clock runs out’ feeling, and satisfied that ‘what if I do this…’ curiosity in me.

playing God/Mayor can be fun! 😀

i'm so thrilled i'm not the only one😀 unfortunately i can't find my sim3000K disk and my simcity4 isn't working at all...but i still have my faithful sims(i have every expansion pack and even have the sims2 somewhere...lost that too, have to find it to install it now that my puter is working again)

Flatfoot, once I found out about the cheat-code... I was never the same. Metropolises were cheap and easy... :sowrong:

although the cheatcodes are incredibly helpful when you're trying to build a house in the sims (20,000 really doesn't go that far)

I'm so happy not to be the only one who likes SimCity! I haven't got the earlier versions, because I didn't have a computer before 99. Lots of cheat codes in SC3KU! 😉

Did anybody design buidlings and upload it to SimCity Exchange? Most of mine are there. I'll try to make some screenshots of the best and post the links here.

No excuse me, please, the petitioners are lining up again, I've got Mayor work to do! 😛

Another fan here! 🙂

I´ve never played 3000 or 4000 but I was adicted to the early versions.

On 2000 I tried with some success to create Lisbon...edited a new cenario and went on building my city up to the true size of Lisbon.

By the way, any of you got in trouble with airports? lol The first time I built one in 2000 I placed a few windpowerplants near and the planes were allways crashing against those lol Then I realized the best way was to level the terrain up a bit before placing the airport so has to be able to build near it.

Ahhhhh...unfortunately, I no longer have any version of the game. I´m looking form them on google 😉 Hope I can find one soon but I don´t have that much time for looking.

Good luck fellow sim mayors 😉

P.S.: And what about civilization???? anyone?? anyone achieved to win in deity level? heheheh I´ve done it once...but it´s crazy! Usually I prefer to play it easy and see things grow and prosper 🙂
