Ever since I was very young I have always enjoyed being tickled. I even tried to provoke girls into tickling me. I've learned that laughter releases endorphins in the brain that make people happy. I try to recreate that feeling in tickling sessions, but at 49 years of age it's getting more difficult to recreate that feeling. Does one get less ticklish with age?

I've noticed it going both ways. Some people seem to get more ticklish with age and others seem to go the other way. I can't figure it out....

Thanks for your response. It might depend on finding the right tickler and being in the right mood.

I've read that you're supposed to get less ticklish as you get older, but I'm definitely more susceptible to tickling than I was when I was younger.

It's possible that it's because the circle of people who tickle me has gotten smaller but those people are more intimately familiar with how to tickle me for maximum devastating effectiveness.

But it really does feel like my physical reaction to tickling has gotten more intense and extreme over time.

I am just as ticklish as ever at age 66. 😀

At 38 I am very ticklish. So I can't really judge yet but...

As we get older... as a community we will have to figure out how to come up with a "retirement plan". To still be able to enjoy It, when and if getting less ticklish occurs. To mentally accept it... and to come up with ideas on how to still enjoy it. And if we can do that.... we will help a lot of people. And ourselves. It may become more of a visual enjoyment. Watching the feathers moving... tickle talk.... still enjoying tickle porn... etc.

It may just be that you need to exercise more to get the circulation flowing.

Thanks for the thoughtful responses. Fortunately I haven't completely lost my ticklishness. Sometimes when the ler hits the right spot and in the right way, I'll burst out laughing.

In my younger years (say mid 20s, I'm 41 now) I tickled a few mature women (40, 50+) and can confirm that some were still incredibly ticklish. I don't know if it increases or decreases, but like to think that it remains a constant throughout life.

Cheers, everybody,

I did date a few women in my 20's and 30's that were around ten years older than me, and they were really ticklish, which I totally took advantage of! 😉

I think as we get older we slowly become more ticklish in spots we really don't recognize. As we continue to get older i don't know how much more ticklish we get or how less ticklish we get, i think it all depends on the person

I wonder if ticklishness is related in any way to reaction times/reflexes, which are known to slow a little with age - but not necessarily until you are pretty elderly. I heard some comment about a piece of research a while ago which suggested that, by some measures, thought processing and reaction times can be at their peak in middle age.

As a man in advanced middle age now myself, I have started to think that I might be just a tad less ticklish than I once was, in terms of physical response. I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, however, which I think does dull my nervous system a little bit, so how much is the effect of age I am not sure.

But I think that a large component of ticklishness is psychological as well, and that is as strong an effect as ever - i.e., as the cowardly Ler that I am, I hate being tickled as much now as when younger.

I was told by a phd sex educator that statistically we become less ticklish.

I just had an amazing experience at an asian massage parlor. The Korean lady that tickled me had my laughing like I haven't in years, especially when she went for my underarms. It's good to know that I can still be ticklish.

YAY!!! 🙂

I hope you tell us more in the true tickling section.. I REALLY want to hear more!!! 😀

35 as of last Thursday.

Just had a great session on the weekend nothing changed except I made a couple of new sounds lol had my Ler laughing just as hard at my crazy laughing sounds lol.

I would not say that I am significantly less ticklish in my 40's than I was in my teens or 20's. I think I just mask my ticklishness better these days

Being in my lower 50's I would say that the spots that I am ticklish in have gotten more ticklish with age.

I guess you get less ticklish if you are tickled less

That's a possibility I suppose. I know when I was a kid I was ticklish as anyone and I avoided getting tickled at all cost! Looking back, I wish I had been tied up and the holy living shit tickled out of me. Now, you wouldn't even tie me up and you could tickle me anywhere and I could stay perfectly still!

I was way more ticklish when I was younger. I don't get tickled much anymore, but on the rare occasion I do, I just don't get the same reaction I used to. I'm more of a 'ler now, and seem to be drawn more towards the younger 'lees.

That's me, too! At least I don't feel as alone anymore...

I'd say my wife is just as ticklish at 46 when I met her at 19. Perhaps she's just far more comfortable and accepting of my particular interest of tickling her pampered little feet. I always suspected that women seemed to be more ticklish if they were with a man or woman they were comfortable with. It's just a theory.

I'm sorry you're dealing w/CFS. I had a friend who suffered the same ailment, and I know it was very frustrating for him.

As far as age and ticklishness, I think people do "outgrow ticklishness" in regards to the upper body but not so much the feet. Since your body goes through so many changes(weight gain, loss, exercise, diet) while your feet pretty much stay the same. Also people's bodies are generally touched a lot as adults more often than their feet, so any tickling sensation might not be as strong. I know a couple women from my childhood who aren't nearly as ticklish on their UB as adults, but I rarely get a chance at their feet.

I knew this one woman who bragged about how she was used to be ticklish everywhere, but through focus, and concentration, she was able to block out being ticklish. That was true for her upper body, but when I got to her feet it was a different story. I tickled her soles, and she went nuts, and was visibly frustrated, that she couldn't control that sensation. She even challenged me to tickle her feet again because she was sure she could handle it. So I obliged and her toes started to twitch, and she gritted her teeth for a second, then burst out laughing and jerked her feet away.

Unless you have a circulatory problem, or you're always barefoot on hard surfaces/or a marathon runner, and build up calluses, it's hard to lose sensitivity on your soles. And that's fine w/me since I'm a foot guy

50 and just as ticklish as I was when I was a kid.....unfortunately or fortunately

Thanks for the kind remark. Loads of people I speak to say they know someone with it. One day we'll find out what the hell it is.
