Here's the way I see it... yes, it's a pain in the ass. I get it. And scanning your ID on the internet is definitely not as secure as it should be. People hack webcams, fingerprint scanners, etc. I definitely get that and think that's a bit on the scary side with identity theft as rampant as it is. But back before we had the internet, people had (and probably still have) adult video stores. If you were a kid and tried to get in they'd kick you out. Even if it wasn't an adult video store, and they just had an adult section, usually it was behind an area that you had to show ID to get to. Not all the time, but most of the time.
Should parents monitor their kids on the internet? 100%. No, 1,000,000%. I, personally, don't even believe kids should be on social media at all. We can't ignore what kind of cesspool social media can be and the effect is already has on adults, let alone children and minors. Have we seen YouTube comment sections? Lol. either way, I do not absolve parents of any responsibility here. At the same time, kids will be kids and they can find ways around stuff. How often did you hear about kids sneakily watching adult movies or looking at adult magazines when you were a kid? I know I heard about it. I wasn't innocent in that regard, neither. I snooped and looked at my step grandfather's playboy collection when I knew I wasn't supposed to. Heck, I was a minor when I first found this site. Why? Because once I was out of a parental figure's eyesight, there was nothing to stop me, because there wasn't anything like that in place back in the 90s. Therefore, measures like this are in place for their protection. It isn't a replacement for parental protection, but a supplement in the event the parents just happen to not be looking.
I think it needs to be better and far more secure. But at the same time, this is adult activity, with adult conversations and it is addictive, which younger minds are very susceptible to on average. We can't pretend that isn't real. We know better. We should not allow children and minors to be involved and if we have to do a little extra to make sure that doesn't happen, then so be it. It's a different age we live in now and to quote one of my favorite movies "The price of progress has never been free." Porn is at our fingertips now. You don't have to go anywhere, but... you gotta do this thing now, which is a pain. It is what it is.
