Just thought I'd pop this up here. We recently sold my old car on auto trader. While it's a good site and everything, they DO have their problems. I received several bogus e-mails from people claiming to be auto dealers wanting to purchase the car. (The fact that every one of them was offering to send me a check for more than I was asking clued me in quickly to that crap.) But, that was a minor annoyance compared to the FLOOD of spam I've been getting since I put the account up. We have what I thought to be a fairly good spam filter with our ISP. But, we're now getting at least 20 e-mails a day coming through and landing in my mailbox. So, for anyone who uses this service, be warned. Don't even open the shit. Most of it contains viruses anyway. Just check and delete/report as spam.

Ann that is true I know someone who did that and the dealer was from a different country and by the time that check cleared her bank the check was stopped so needless to say she doesn't have the car or money now

Deuce, if your friend has been swindled, she needs to report that she's been a victim of fraud, if she hasn't done so yet. She must have lost a lot of money! 🙁

Sorry to hear that. I did IP checks on people who sent me offers/inquiries. Half were in Asia. The funniest one was the guy who claimed to be from near my hometown in upstate NY. I offered to bring the car to him since he was so close. Instead, he wanted to send me a check for twice what I was asking for the car and have me pay "his shipping company" the balance. If THAT doesn't send up red flags...! I forwarded every suspect inquiry to AutoTrader's fraud office. So, hopefully, they'll shut down the suspect IPs.

In the end, I refused to deal with anyone who wouldn't meet in person. We had the car on the street in front of the office of our family business. A nice young couple who needed a good car at a good price ended up getting it. I didn't get what I'd hoped for out of it. But, i was glad to make the deal because of the situation.

I think her big problem was they were opening and closing accounts faster then we change are underwear and the State couldn't put the man hours into chasing a paper trial in a forign country,so as mean as this may sound she is wiser now.
