ok. Brace yourself for the dumbest question I've ever asked a forum in at least 6 years of being online:

"if TT has 42,000 members, and you only see about the same 200+ people in these forums, do you guys really have 40000+ lurkers?! :weird:

Heh! Or have those 200 people just forgotten their passwords THAT many times? 😀

I suspect you're right actually. There are some 40,000 lurkers - including me, I've only posted about 30 times in something like 2 years. May I ask how you got to the figure of only 200 posters? Does that include those that don't post in the fora that you frequent?

i think it was more of a baseless estimate ;p

if you noticed I ranged it between 200-2000, just sort of more subtle than I had wanted. :grind_tee

I'd say there were lurkers. Some, who might be shy to "come out of the closet", or just shy in general. Check out my join date. Then look at when I actually started posting regularly. 'nuff said.

I imagine that some people are lurkers and some are people who have signed up and just don't come back for whatever reason. Yeah I was a lurker for about 2 years I'd say. I don't think it was about me coming out of some closet though. I think it was more of a feeling that I didn't have anything new to bring to the table.

I think there are a ton of lurkers here. I was a lurker until a few months ago, and I joined before 2004 (for some reason my old account stopped working, so I had to re-register). Posting gets easier the more you do it, but to start in the first place was a big step for me, and probably for a lot of you, as well.

I think there are lots of lurkers on heere, which is a shame. All these great new people I'd love to meet! I was lucky in that I joined up when the place was getting more active I think ^_^ . But it seems to have gone quiet again now >_< .

mmm Before i joined. I didn't see the point in the forum until I saw how friendly/active it was. So I worked up the courage 2 join. but now its real quiet. Everyone shy or something? Nobody likes 2 talk.... Dunno why cause it is fun meeting new people, even on the net. Recently I have met a couple of really nice/cool people! 🙂

You wore us all out, Kimi. 😀 😎

I was a lurker for a long time - most people are, and a lot never get past that stage to being active members; it's the same in any forum, not just fetish forums where there is the "coming out of the closet" aspect to it, but any forum at all.

It all comes down to trying to get as much out of the forum whilst putting the least in. Sooner or later, some of them eventually realise they get a lot MORE out by putting much more in in the first place.

My £0.03 (that's inflation for ya! 😛)

It's good to lurk. I posted I think within a day or two of joining. Never had joined anywhere else. My first post was of the only TK manip that I had ever done. I said that I wished I knew who the original artist was and hoped he would not mind my manip. It was received tactfully and positively, but I was encouraged to post my own work. I'm glad I had decided not to do more manips, because then I saw a thread on manips and how many artists hated them. I hadn't fully considered the feelings of the original, though unknown, artist. Had I lurked first, I would have discovered all the etiquette, expected behavior, who the main players were, etc. And I would have known the "third person" hollywood brother was cool.

It's good to lurk. For a while anyway.

I agree that it is good to lurk, but I think the more you put in, the more you get out of this place. As a lurker, I visited this place because it was convinient. Then I did a manip or two, and interacted with a few members, and that was great. I used to download other people's artwork thinking "I'm so glad people do this" and how there's no way in hell I'd ever do my own. Now I post my own artwork occasionally, and I love the feedback I get, but it's a weird feeling that there may be lurkers looking at my own pics and feeling the same way I used to think.

Ugh, uber ramble - apologies. >_<;;

senshi> Thanks, useful feedback for me. I'm off to finish my second story, and first original art.

well at least I'm not entirely crazy.

it did seem silly at time time, i just did a double take when I saw the total members tally.

Good Thread Idea.
