Ambushed by the Fox Gang (*/f teasing & aftermath, Hero Forge)

Sheriff Nella "Birdie" Whitmore has been hot on the trail of the Fox Gang. Led by a mysterious mastermind known only as "the Royal Fox", the Fox Gang has managed to pull off multiple high-ransom kidnappings in the area.

Unfortunately, Sheriff Birdie soon finds that she is not the predator in this game of chase, but the prey. Ambushed by the Fox Gang, Birdie is left with their namesake vulpine companions -- specially trained to sniff out weakness and soften up captives until the Royal Fox can arrive.



It doesn't take long. The masked Royal Fox never speaks, even as he shows his erstwhile pursuer some of his own... hospitality. He asks no questions and demands no answers.



Eventually, the Royal Fox stops and steps aside. Birdie thinks he's had his fun and will finally make his demands. Instead, he returns with new toys for his playmate to "enjoy": a writing quill with a soft rubber nib, scrub brushes and paint brushes and a seemingly endless supply of paint, soap, and water...

Luckily for Birdie, she is the beloved sheriff of the frontier town of Smooth Hollow. Luckier still, she isn't present in the town to adamantly refuse to pay ransom (as she has done with the previous kidnappings). Less lucky is the fact that it takes the better part of two days for the town to gather the ransom and deliver it to the Royal Fox's goons. Still, better late than never! Birdie's deputy arrives at hideout of the gang, who fled with the loot a mere quarter hour ago...



The deputy is relieved to find the sheriff physically unharmed, but she's nearly out of her mind after her ordeal.



After a few weeks of R&R, Sheriff Birdie resumes her post at Smooth Hollow. Despite her best efforts, she has absolutely no leads to track the Royal Fox or his dastardly Fox Gang.

Though one day, she notices that her deputy seems to have come into possession of a sizeable "inheritance", and suspicion creeps into her mind...
