American Airlines is becoming another Enron

I worked at American Airlines for 6 years and was glad to get away before everything went down the crapper back in June of '01.

I still have good friends who are at AA and they are pissed, as I myself, am.

The CEOs and upper managers were asking all employees both union and non-union to take drastic pay-cuts (as must as 40%) to help stabalize the company and at the same time, Don Carty and several of the upper execs are pocketing millions of dollars in bonuses.

They did not even have a profit sharing for the last 2 years, because there were no profits to be shared, but Don Carty and company found enough money to stuff down their own wallets.

This is becoming more and more of an Enron comapny and as much as I hated Robert Crandell and his "I am greater than God Himself" attitude, he would not have put up with this.

I wish my company would go under. They fired one of my friends for saying she was trying to get a union there. I'm next, I'm guessing(read hopeing), since I asked about a union a few days ago.

One wonders if the government is ever going to ask for an accounting for those billions of bailout dollars ladled out to the airlines. Obviously, this is a tough time to be in that business, but if stuff like this is happening even after the airlines have been handed that much cash, something's very wrong in those companies.

The problem is that there is no accountability among CEOs. They assume that they can rape the company, buy off anybody who gets in their way, and answer to nobody.

Washington very happily took bribes from Enron to look the other way, and I think Don Carty is trying to do the same.
