yeah...i'm sure there are a lot of gun-nuts out there. but for those of who who like the weapons of old, i.e.: staves, spears, swords, knives, etc., what do you prefer?

me, i'm big into blades. i have a pair of punch-cutter cesti, a dual-bladed katana, a full daisho, broadsword, pantera claws and a rather nice dagger. i grew up around weapons, and my pops had a helluva medieval weapons collection.

i'm also a big fan of knives. i always carry my 440 stainless steel lockblade with me, both as a means of self-defense and just in case. never know when you need to cut a seatbelt off of someone after an accident.

I love staves/quarterstaffs and the like. I'm actually quite proficient with mine.

Blades are interesting, I own a few ornamental daggers and a replica of Ramirez's katana from "Highlander", but my second favored would probably be flails.

The bony bit on the front of my forehead. Oldest weapon known to mankind and the most fun to use 😀 Failing that give me a Colt 1911.

Easily Maces. Blunt weapons are perfect. Why slice, when you can shatter?

I have a collection of Maces and Axes.

I "agree" ... I admit, I prefer Maces to Axes. I LOVE Axes... but maces were the best!

Abdomen or neck?

I've long been fascinated by the sling. Ammunition is plentiful, and apparently, they're easy to learn to use. And I'm also a huge advocate of the mace/morningstar/flail. With a blade or penetrating weapon, like say a spear or arrow, you've got to either luck out and hit a gap or weakness in your enemy's armor, but with a bashing weapon, it's just a win/win scenario. No matter how heavily armored they are, they're still going to rattle around like a pebble in a hub cap when you transfer all that kinetic energy from your bonk stick to them. Whammity-wham-wham-WHAM! Sit the hell down! :evilha: And any weapon that can be simultaneously used to block your opponent's weapon and attack with has always garnered my favor. Consider the Okinawan tonfa, for example. Or paired dueling weapons such as the poniard or main gauche, designed to block/trap your adversary's weapon whilst you poke him with your sword. Oh, don't even get me started on siege engines. I freakin' love the Romans. :firedevil

not to mention the fact that chain weapons like flails can get around shields in D&D. i mean...how cool is that?

and Headsnap...the Colt 1911 is a damn fine weapon, but not totally what i was going for. how do you classify the bony bit in your forehead, anyway? is it piercing? 😀

Fav Weapons

The English longbow. Very effective and deadly as the Frenchies found out...

Katana of course, big fan of its simplicity, length and cutting power.

To an extend, I am also a fan of the Spanish rapier. Its Saber variant is also fun, fast and quite deadly.

I'm amused by the fans of Maces in this thread. 🙂 It's a highly undervalued, and underestimated weapon. For reasons that escape me, considering its wide use in history.

ah yes, the katana. i'll be happy if i can add a no-dachi to my collection in the near future. i mean...a blade made in the fashion of a katana but with a 6-7ft reach? how bad ass is that?

I'm really a fan of the dead livestock in the catapult approach. I wanna chuck some carcasses at my neighbors too!

Can I change my answer to this? As fun as headbutting people is, nothing says "I fack jou mudder" quite like a Fresian through the wall.

methinks one has watched too much "Holy Grail". but such a tactic is quite useful...specially if said dead cattle were infested or had a lot to eat previously...

No one has mentioned either of my two faves;

My first choice is the war sledge, a heavy hammer head on a long, steel-wrapped haft, tapering to a narrow tip on one side but blunt on the other.
Wielded by an arm like mine, the blunt end will cave in the strongest armor a man can wear and still move like a tin can, or, if I feel like being more precise, the narrow end will punch through that armor and six inches deep into whatever's underneath.

My second fave is called the Bec De Corbeau, or crow's head. It's a six inch diameter iron ball on the end of a three foot long oaken haft, also wrapped in steel. From one side of the ball, a spike with a circular cross section emerges. It's diameter at the base is three inches, and it tapers to a needle point over its twelve inch length. The spike has a slight curve, and with that heavy ball behind it will punch through even the heaviest armor as though the armor were made of cheese. This one has the added advantage that the armor has only the one small hole, so it's easy to repair when you sell it after the battle. :evilha:

Used to have several full weapons sets back when I had lotsa money, before I got poor.

Scottish; Skean Dhu, Dirk, Claidhbegh (smallsword) Claidhheamorh (great sword), lochaber axe and targe shield.

Samurai; Tanto, Tachi, Katana, Wakizashi, and Naginata haft with a socketed end that any of the four blades could be fitted into.

Cossack; Kindjal, Shashka, razor-rimmed spike-centered round shield and set of six throwing javelins.

Khazakh; Jambiya, Yataghan, war darts and dart thrower.

I also had a Kris and a Kukri, each in full sword size. Nasty, those are.

Gotta go with the Katana here. I've studied its use and trained for almost two decades with my favorite blade. It's my personal weapon of choice. And, it's not that hard to deal with armor. You just gotta be good, that's all. :triangle:

I also have a special place in my heart for darts. Not the shitty little things the drunks at the bar throw around, but the real "combat" darts, the ones that can go through a car door if thrown correctly. Nasty things.

Of course, gimme a lightsaber any day. 😀

A 19th Century English Man O' War, surely the most majestic instrument of battle ever created.

Although to be honest a fair number of them were French, we would wait for them to build one and then nick it.

Aye but we did more with them than the French ever would have. They would have painted them silly colours and left them sitting in the harbour until they sank or were filled with garlic. We built an Empire with them. Ah the big galleons, just thinking about them makes me want to grab a pith helmet, a Lee Enfield .303 and go running after natives in the Zulu-Natal.

I always loved broad swords. I just like seeing someone wield a giant hacking weapon like it weighs nothing.

Great Movies, but the British didn't do too well down there.

BTW< I own a Masai Spear and an Short hafted Assegai, along with about 40 other weapons, spears, blades, axes, maces, etc. No clue what my fave would be tho. several are handy and I am decently proficient with them.

Always gotta be prepared for the Zombie invasion, you know.

They might've done if they'd had the Lee Enfield .303 in them days 😀 Or even a repeating cow-catapult. That would've shown them Masai Mara where to get off, having diseased Aberdeen Anguses barrelling through their ranks.

wow...some great responses among us! who would have thought so many people would have their own personal armory? some impressive collections, too.
