Well, as you can tell from my sig, I prefer Dragonball Z. But I also like the Tenchi Series, Anything Gundam, and I really like Slayers, And Blue Gender. How about you guys? 😎

My favorite Anime movie is probably Princess Mononoke, my favorite anime show is Cowboy Bebop. I don't watch as many anime as I'd like to, but what I do see, I enjoy.

Oh, so many to choose...

I was practically raised on Speed Racer, Marine Boy, Battle of the Planets, Tranzor Z, Voltron, and others. (Western animation was a profound influence as well, but that isn't the topic at hand...)

The two biggies from this period are Star Blazers (A.K.A. Space Cruiser Yamato) and Robotech (A.K.A. Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climbers Mospeada). When I was little, I used to draw my own Field Recognition Technical Manuals of EDF, Gamilon, and Comet Empire warships. Frell, I still go to The Starship Schematic Database - Space Cruiser Yamato all the time. From then on, I became the "Gearhead" subspecies of Otaku, and almost all my favorite Anime had to have lots of nifty Sci-Fi hardware.

Favorites include:
AD Police Files
Bubblegum Crisis
Bubblegum Crash
(Note that I mean the originals, not the recent remakes, which are missing something as far as the characters go, IMHO.)
The Big O
Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in the Shell
Gunsmith Cats
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
Macross Plus
Mobile Suit Gundam 0079
Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket
Gundam 0080: The 08th Mobile Suit Team
Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory
(However, I just can't get into Gundam Wing)
Ninja Scroll
Patlabor
Record of Lodoss War
Riding Bean
Trigun
Vampire Hunter D

I've narrowed it down to four:

The Slayers: A prime example of what happens when the antics of extremely powerful D&D characters go awry.

Record of the Lodoss War: Aside from Slayers, this has got to be the best representation of a fantasy anime that I have ever seen.

Devil Man: It appeals to my sometimes twisted sense of humor with plenty of gory humor and profanity. I only wish they released more than two episodes in the U.S.

Vampire Hunter D: What can I say about this that needs saying? A true anime classic.

vampire hunter D
ninja scroll
akira
the trigun series
the bastard series(resurrection...ETC.

I watched things like Speed Racer and Tranzor Z growing up, but Dragonball Z is what really got me into anime. I look to Toonami for anime mostly, and I it out wherever I see it on tv.

But my favorites?

Dragonball Z is definately up there, in my opinion the best action cartoon of all time (with a nod to Batman, X-Men, and Spider-Man as honorable mentions)

But currently Cowboy Bebop is my favorite. Every episode is a short epic in itself, the cast is not too large, and all the characters have plenty of depth. The music is outstanding, and it'll make even the most jaded music lover turn up their tv when they play "Real Folk Blues"

The animation style is great, and there's plenty of action in there, as well as comedy, mystery, and romance. I hope Knockin' On Heaven's Door (the Cowboy Bebop movie) comes to the US on DVD soon!

-See you space cowboy...

favorite anime

The first real anime I watched (over and over before I saw any translation) was project A'ko.

I have to say that is still my favorite anime for just plain humor!

Besides that my second choices are Cowboy Bebop and Trigun.

I love Princess Mononoke, I think it's one of the best movies I've ever seen, animated or otherwise.

I also like one called 'Perfect Blue'. I like anime but sometimes the plot ideas get lost on me because animes are really different from american movies 😉

Well for me it is without a doubt Unico (The Fantastic Adventures) - if anyone knows someone with this on VHS please let me know! 🙂 I borrowed it relentlessly as a very young kid...that is until the video rental place went broke. 🙁 Nowadays I enjoy Guyver more than the other anime I've seen (although I have to admit to have seen little).

Okay, am I remembering the same thing you're talking about? Unico was a little unicorn that would somehow morph into a large one with wings whenever she ran fast.... and um I think I remember something in there about everyone in the town turning into blocks... it was weird, but I've also wondered about this series, I have vague memories of watching it as a kid.

have you ever seen The Last Unicorn? It was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and then I found the book a few years ago and now it's one of my favorite books 🙂

you should see it if you can Ayesha, or read the book....the book is by Peter S. Beagle and it's excellent 🙂

In other animes, I also really liked the Escaflowne series, and the Oh My Goddess series.
