I read today that the kids who sang in the Pink Floyd classic are sueing for royalties they should have received for this song. If this is true.. can you imagine the settlement figure?

From what I understand, they would only receive a few hundred dollars each. This has been in the news for about 2 weeks now and I have been following it off and on..

Those that sang it were not supposed to be allowed to do so by their school at the time.. the kids in the video were not the same ones...they would only be entitled to the wages at the time...not a large amount at all..

So it really is becoming a nuisance settlement for the band just to get the kids off their backs. It's like "here is some money, go buy some video games, or something"

Credit where credit is due..In this case it truly is NOT about the money....

ah ok.. thanks for the info. I would have thought it a much larger settlement also. Regardless of the situation involved, the kids did sing in the song and should be entitled to proper settlement.

I think the band is actually in agreement with that as well...just need to decide a reasonable settlement....

(i'm not a floyd fan, but here's my take)...i think that maybe they should give them alittle bit more money than whatever they gave the kids that were in the video

Now will these settlements involve all the members of Floyd? I was just wondering about who actually wrote "Another Brick". Roger Waters? David Gilmore? Both? Or as a collective with Nick Mason and Richard Wright? My guess is this song is Roger Waters baby.

And you are 100% correct Drew😀 On the whole Wall LP, Gilmore only co wrote 2 tracks (Run Like Hell & Numb). The rest was all Waters (except "The Trial" which the LP co producer helped write).

If this is true, then the kids who sang on Ray Stevens' "Everything Is Beautiful", Three Dog Night's "Black And White" and Alice Cooper's "School's Out" had better be paying attention.

Next, I suppose the guy who whistled on Elton John's "Benny And The Jets" will be asking for royalties.

I'm no lawyer, but I think it would depend on whether the afforementioned examples were all "written" to be said, or sang, in the song in question. It is clear that the kids in PF's song were singing actual lyrics written to be vocalized in the song in question, therefore they are entitled to any subsequent royalties. My 2 cents anyway. 😀

I've heard that if you make any sound on a recording, you are entitled to some kind of payment for your services. I posted those examples just for fun. I doubt if anyone would sue the record company because they felt their whistle or grunt was an artistic achievement worthy of recompense. Most of those whistles and cheers heard on records are from 'stock' recordings anyway. Sort of like laugh tracks heard on TV shows, they're added just to give the feel of a live recording.

I'm sure there is a Pink Floyd website that can answer your question... there are websites available on any topic these days.

If Eminem is still around in the year 2024, he'll probably have recorded an album of standards like Rod Stewart has been doing these days. Ah, a rap version of "Unforgettable". Puncture my eardrums now!

He'll be able to use the money from that project to pay off those kids... I doubt anyone would pay to hear him rap standards though. Maybe we could pay him to shut up!
