For those of you that follow NHRA Drag Racing, if you havent already heard, we lost one of the bright, shining, young top fuel stars tonight. Darrel Russel, the Driver for Joe Amato's top fuel car, lost his life in a second round race at Gatway Raceway in St. Louis Mo. It appeared that a rear tire failure took out the rear wing, and the parts that scattered all over the place may have had something to do with his injurys, though it is only speculation at this point. Prayers to his family.:dropatear

I just saw darrell when he was here in vegas last year. My condolonces
go out to his family. He was a great deiver and fan favorite.

whenever i hear about race car drivers losing their lives, i am instantly dazed and disoriented.

for me, these people stood at the edge of time and space, and ate it all up. their world is unlike anything we can imagine.

and to have that pulsing, vibrant life extinguished - its almost surreal.

my heart goes out to his family and friends. and may he win every race in Heaven, where the christmas tree lights are always green!
 
Hello to everyone since this is my first post!
I couldn't believe it when I saw the crash happen. I originally thought that the fire was what killed him but later learned that a piece of the car hit him in the head, and eventually killed him. it immediately made me think of the time Blaine Johnson, another up and coming star, got killed at Indy in 1996. Its things like these that make a person realize the dangers of racing. Being around drag acing all of my life since my dad drag raced locally in weekly brackets, and I will be soon joining him once I get a car to drag race, it brings the realizaton that there is a danger of not coming back alive once you strap that helmet on. My deepest condolences go out to his family.
 
I think I saw a Drag racer the other day but the dress he was wearing was really tacky and it appeared the high heels were interfering with the operation of the clutch.🙄 😉

Sorry......sometimes I just can't help myself.😀 😉 😱 :wow:
