I was just recounting some of my fond memories and I remembered reading the old Opus the penguin and Bill strip cartoon ...
anyone else here fans of Opus and Bill?

I remember them fondly. Opus has a fake ass that falls off, doesn't he? And Bill is that tall, lankey, disturbed looking cat right?

I don't remember too much what they did, but I remember there being a cartoon for them and the comic strip.

I still have all of my collection boks of Bloom County. It remains as one of my top two or three strips.

I remember one of the books came with one of those old floppy-vinyl 45's with the Billy and the Boingers song "U Stink but I Love U", complete with Opus tuba solo.

I've always empathized rather well with Steve Dallas...for some reason or another.

My best friend turned me on to it back in the late 80s...it was brilliant and hilarious, and unforgettable. I'm sorry Breathed closed it down. I'd bet that on some level, so is he.

I have one of those collection books someplace here...

I have Doonesbury books from the same time. I thought Doonesbury peaked during Reagan and Bush...

If I remember correctly, months ago in the comics, his son(I think the kid's name is "Auggie" ..only seen the name in the strip once or twice, though) just showed up at a playground, holdin a pic of him and recognized him

I guess it'd been awhile since an Opus comic strip was printed--never saw it before-- since the guy was bragging about how he was still full of energy and still had a full head of hair, even at 50, and saying he was back . That's when his kid suddenly shows up.( "Don't....DON'T say it, kid!".........."Daddy!" "That! Don't say THAT!" lmao! )

And in the next week's strip, he was freaking out since he didn't understand how this kid could be his son Opus explained to him that one of Steve's old girlfriends just dropped his kid off there....or somethin like that.

Wow, I LOVED Bloom County. It was the only comic strip I ever found to be actually comical. Somewhere in my closet I still have the compilation books. On the cover of one, Opus is surrounded by nubile young women, sitting under a tree, being fed and having his feet gently feathered. Gotta love that, lol. I'm pretty sure I still have my Bill the Cat tee shirt somewhere too. Now if I can just get out those pit stains from the 80's

Opus is my hero! Or at least he was until Breathed decided to finish with Bloom County. I didn't care much for Outland.

I think the Bloom County series I remember best is a nine or ten strip set where Opus helps Steve Dallas quit smoking.
Dallas is tied to a wooden chair when he starts to go nuts.
Opus locks himself in the bathroom.
Dallas grabs an axe with his mouth, chops open the door, and stuffs Opus in the toilet.
He jumps up and down on him (still tied to the chair), screaming for Opus to give him back his cigarettes.
Opus calls the cops and complains that "the Tidy-Bowl is irritating his buttocks."
Dallas is finally subdued after overdosing on Ding-Dongs.

Good to read about the forthcoming movie. You can bet I'll watch!

Thank you to all that have responded to this thread,
I am going to see the movie when it comes out,unfortunately there aren;t any newspapers out here that have Opus and Bill..I have missed them from my years awhile ago...
At one point I had a night shirt with Opus , I am pleased to see the response to this thread
