Any scientists out there in the tickling community?

don't let that stop you from your dream career you will learn the Math soon enough if you work hard at it! You can be anything you want to be if you are willing to work hard enough for it!

Oh, hey!

I\'ve just completed my second year of my Biology degree (today!), and I\'m going into my Cell/Microbiology specialization next year. Shout out to all the Bio chums, eh?

Advantages: Possibility of engineering devious, biological tickling devices. I\'m working on a tickle plant. Maybe. >.>

Disadvantages: Labs pretty much every day, so, you\'re not around sandals very much. No open-toed shoes allowed on lab days. Yuck.

@Physicist:

I tried physics, I really did! Then the quantum stuff blew my mind. *twitch*

Dangerous chemicals on the bench. Your lab coat protects down to your shins, but no bare skin allowed - so no shorts, no sandals.

And, as scientists, we're a lazy lot, all in all (at least I am!), and most of us don't tend to pack spare pants/shoes on lab days.

If you see a pack of people in long pants and sneakers when everyone's wearing labs and sandals, odds are they're science students. =P

Well i may not be a scientists, i'm an artist and i get to tickle people who r ticklish when i do body painting. I also work at a spa as a massage therapist so i get to tickle people who r ticklish with them thinking its part of the massage. LOL Guess u could say i'm already working on the science of tickling.

I haven't started any University courses but I plan on either being a Biology teacher/professor, pathologist, oncologist, or just general doctor. The only thing that sucks is it'll end up costing me a LOT of $$$ in debt, and likely about 15 years or so, depending on how much I want to specialize. *sigh*

I do research on infectious diseases, deadly pathogens, that kind of stuff.

Hey Yersinia--would that be after pestis by chance? :dead:

That was indeed the inspiration for the name - hence the plague era artwork as the avatar.
I've always been interested in the plague: historically and biologically.

What pathogens do you work with out of curiosity?

So you're the one developing drugs to cut off blood supplies to tumors, to effectively shrink them and prevent them from growing/metastasizing???

*bows humbly before such an amazing scientist*

You officially rock my stocks.

Really, no need for that. I'm totally flattered though; you just made my night.

You nailed the focus of the lab. We typically do these sorts of studies in ovarian cancer models (my boss is a gynecologic oncologist).

Am I the only Physicist here?

I've taken quantum chem and diffeq/numerical methods for physics classes. Thats sort of close right?

OK, so maybe not. I can definitely commiserate if the math is giving you a headache though. I've totally been there.

I just look up to you Yersinia, already having a BSc. and seeming to be headed in a pretty darn good direction. Except for the fact that I didn't like chemistry too much (WAY too many measurements!), the field you're working in seems really cool!! :super_hap

Again I'm totally flattered.

I noticed that you are interested the same feild that I am working in, so if you'd like to talk about the sort of methods and experimentation my lab is doing, feel free to PM me. I would love to share experience with a budding cancer biologist.

The aims of my field are really cool. Sometimes the methods are less cool, and/or discouraging (although I think science is often that way in general). I always loved chemistry because I am really anal about issues like uncertainty, and precision, and because I like having the types of predictive models available in the physical sciences, but without the math headaches you get in physics. My plan is to go into bioanalytic or bioorganic chemistry, and be able to contribute to biological knowledge in a way that suits my quirky set of sensibilities. :ggrin:

Cool, you develop 'em, I'll give them to the patients!
