This had to have been about the coolest thing I've seen in years! I just got done watching Metallica from Wembley in London on the "Live Earth" broadcast, and thankfully I didn't go out to walk the dog like I'd planned.

Out comes Spinal Tap in all of thier old glory! I couldn't believe they got these guys to do this show. The highlight had to be the all-star cast for the new rendition of the Tap classic "Big Bottom"! Twenty-five or so bassists all on the same stage for a walk down remembery lane. Hell, even James Hetfield of Metallica picked up a bass for the jam.

This was, quite frankly, the best act of the whole day so far. With the wigs and outfits, Micheal McKeon (David St. Hubbins) and Christopher Guest (Nigel Tuffnel) look just like they did twenty years ago. Of course, Harry Shearer (Derek Smalls) is looking a bit grey around the temples, but it was still the coolest thing in years. They even did a take on the old "Stonehenge" bit, with the "little people" dancers and yet another disaster with the stage set.

Simply classic.

Tap still rules!

No, I am afraid I didn't see, but now I know what to watch for. Chances are it will be repeated and/or on youtube. Thanks for the heads up. And you are so right. Tap still rules!!!!!

I missed it. My computer, at this point, is not a fan of Live Earth. It freezes at the very thought of it. Hopefully someone captured it and will post it like bellystrokes said. In the meantime, here is an interview they did promoting the upcoming event and a view of their rehearsal for it:

Q: Have you been doing much charity work?
A: Not intentionally.

St. Hubbans on Global Warming: It's an important thing, I think- global warming. If it weren't happening, it wouldn't matter at all.

Nigel: I think it's a personal decision.

Just viewed----wonderful----thanks. They never fail to please and entertain.

I wish i saw it, was at milwaukee summer fest

nigel-global warming? Well if you're warm just take off your jacket

hhehehe,
I am sure Metallica will consider warming up for them as a highlight of their career---they should---seriously!!!

Good finds. Thanks again. Have concert on Bravo now.

I agree, once again. Metallica... I take Spinal Tap more seriously.

I listened to the performance on XM Radio while driving home from Phoenix today. I was thinking, "Man, I wish I could see that performance instead of just hearing it." Thanks to YouTube, I can, and so can you!!!

Thanks a lot for posting the vid, featherfingers! I was hoping it would go up on youtube, but I wasn't expecting it so soon. Here is a link to the other two songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixx1w3LS08M

Sadly, I quite agree. I think their new tune is the best song I've heard performed at Live Earth; this is to say that in today's age of pop music, Spinal Tap is refreshing for their musicality.

I managed to tune into KLOS while at work today, caught Spinal Tap and Metallica.

Thanks for posting the youtube links. Gotta love modern technology!!!!

I finally caught it, amazing, was slightly saddened there was no incident with stone henge

(the movie, it was small, in the sequel spinal tap 25 years later, it was so big they couldnt get it in the auditorium)

Anyone have a list of all the bassists?

Didn't you catch the whole thing? There was an incident with "Stonehenge". The two collumns were carried onstage by the dwarves (which took a bit more time than Mr. St. Hubbins would have liked, apparently), and the top cross piece was supposed to come down, but didn't. In the middle of the song, St. Hubbins is on his cell phone trying to get someone to get the thing to work. Later in the show, the thing drops out of the sky for no reason after the columns have been removed. Dave's out there gesturing wildly to get the damn thing back up into the rafters.

Classic Tap. :triangle:
