Anyone ever eat mutton?

About two weeks ago i'm standing outside at work talking to some of the other drivers.The subject of bbq came up and one of the guys mentioned a place that's in my neighborhood.I must have passed it hundreds of times but never stopped.

Today on the way home i heard a rib plate calling my name.🙂 After getting my order in i'm looking at the menu and they have mutton.I have eaten at tons of hole in the wall bbq joints and never seen mutton on the menu.

Before i take the plunge i'd like some opinions on what to expect.

I've only had mutton once. It tasted, as you might expect, very much like lamb. It was tougher, but I don't know if that is characteristic of mutton or if just that piece was tough.

well, like my friend Miracle Max once said:

have not had lamb in a long while but it is very nice if made the right way.

Lamb tastes lovely. So lovely indeed that every year when fresh lambs are born I can barely resist the urge to storm into the meadow, kill a lamb and eat it raw. One of my favourite kinds of meat.

Mutton tastes similar indeed but the flavour is a bit stronger and it is not as tender as lamb.

What he said... except the first part. It wasn't stellar. I wouldn't repeat it...it was "gamey" imo.

Lamb is pretty good if it's cooked right. I grew up thinking I hated steak and lamb because my mom's side tends to cook things until they're rock hard. I never got a "gamey" taste from it either.

If mutton tastes like lamb as people say, I expect you'll probably like it.

I once had a baby lamb's leg in a restaurant, one of the best things I ever had.

That is not surprising. I wouldn't be surprised if you ripped it from the baby lamb yourself. 🙂

Has mutton broth in it. If the lamb is more than 1 year old it is considered mutton.

There is a good reason that it tasted like lamb, because Mutton is Lamb. when cooked properly Mutton is very tender and it is delicious.
