Anyone ever heard of the Bell Witch

There is a lightning storm raging outside, so I started looking up info on The Amityville Horror as there is a new version movie comming out. IN reading about it, I stumbled on the story of the Bell Witch, which involved a first hand account by Andrew Jackson, who later became one of our Presidents. I am still reading it, but it seems pretty cool.

There is a movie made about this too, but there is nothing on the site as to when it is coming out, or if it already came out. There is a video, but I don't know if this is the movie or just a video on it:

She always said that she would kill John Bell and sure enough she became the first spirit to kill a person. Even the State of Tennessee has a sign talking about it, and Tennessee is the only state to recognize a spirit killing a person.

The witch also appearantly predicteed WW1, WW2 and other things back in the 1800's. Here is a book on it:

In April of 1821, the "spirit" visited Lucy Bell and told her that "it" would return in seven years for a visit. Seven years later, in 1828, the "spirit" returned as promised. Most of this visit centered around John Bell, Jr. The "spirit" discussed with him such things as the origin of life, Christianity, the need for a mass spiritual reawakening, and other in-depth topics. Of particular significance were the "spirit’s" predictions of the Civil War, World War I, the Great Depression, and World War II.

This photograph was taken and submitted by Chris Kirby, one of the owners of the Bell Witch Cave near Adams, Tennessee. The cave and the Bell farm has had a very long history of hauntings and strange activity. The story of the haunting at the farm and cave can be found in Troy Taylor's book Season of the Witch.

The photo that appears above was taken near a sinkhole on the Kirby's farm that leads down into the depths of the haunted cave. The cave itself, while formed by water from limestone, is what is referred to by geologists as a "dry cave". This means that the cave, except for during flood seasons, remains relatively dry and does not have the common cave features that are formed by water like stalactites and stalagmites. I mention this to dispel the idea that this might be some kind of mist of wet fog that is emerging from the cave via the sinkhole. Many debunkers, who are ignorant and uninformed of the area and the cave's geology, have tried to dismiss this as mere fog.

This image could not be seen by the naked eye when the photo was taken. Some have suggested that they can see the image of a face inside of the ectoplasmic-like cloud but regardless the source of the "mist" remains unexplained. In 1997, the photo was submitted to the Kodak Laboratories and they had no explanation for it and could find nothing wrong with the film, negative or print that would debunk this image.

There is even a natural rock formation in the cave that looks like the profile of a halloween witch:

That is very werid, especially to be in a place that is supposed to be haunted by a witch. In fact the whole place this thing takes place at looks like it should be in a horror film.

Interesting story, buggsy. Thanks for sharing it. We've been talking about taking a ride up to Salem one day (speaking of witches). So, this makes for some interesting reading before we go.

The image of the rock formation actually reminds me of one of the formations in a cavern in upstate NY...Howe Caverns. You can see a pic of it HERE I have a better shot that I took a few years ago. If I can find it, I'll post it.

that pic..the so called eerie one! with the spirits flying around..thats what happens when you smoke while taking a picture. especially if they were smoking some special herb! lmfao! i guess, that if you were stoned..dont remember it, you see this pic, it does look like ghosts. hmm

There is a spoof online that I stumbled on last night called THE BELL WITCH PROJECT

it is a takeoff on the blair witch project, but involving 3 beer drinking rednecks. They go into the woods to search for the Bell withc and dont come out. They equipment they took along with them:

Sunglasses
a notebook
a bag of pot
a bag of coke
a case of beer
3 liters
and some twinkies
1 throw away fuji one shot camera

All that was found was the notebook (empty) and the sun glasses.

At one point in the video, as they are being chased by the Bell Witch, one of them yells "Holy Shit! She stole all of our beer!"

Their photographic proof of ghosts is a few painted ghosts on some cardbaord hung from trees and leaned on cave walls. They swear they didnt see the ghosts when they took the pics.
