I think it's really a case by case kind of thing. For videos, I definitely think it is a must considering it is very difficult for a cameraman (or especially for producers without cameramen) to follow someone thrashing around wildly from a good tickling. LOL! However, in my personal life, I actually prefer to tickle without restraints for the most part. Probably the number one reason being spontaneity. Then again, a good immobilizer is worth it's weight in gold as well, so, yeah, I'm sticking with my case by case original answer. lol 😉

I've done it once with my BF, it was enjoyable, but I prefer the playful ones just a bit more. Not saying I don't like the tied-up, I'll definitely try it again, but for now, I prefer playful. 🙂

I like both. Sure, it's fun and albeit easy to tie someone up to tickle them (and it's enjoyable, for sure), however there's something to be said about the fun a struggle could bring about and the "Oh shit, I'm fucked" feeling you get as a 'lee once you realize that well, you are indeed fucked. 😀

As far as if I'm on the receiving end, I have a preference for being tied up, which goes into the whole, "love-hate" relationship with tickling. I certainly enjoy playful tickle-fighting, but depending on my mood, if I'm NOT bound, being tickled has the potential to irritate me. However, if I'm bound and have no control over my situation, I can just give in to the unbearable sensations and let go, which turns out to be VERY enjoyable.

It seems to me that non-bondage tickling can and will become an intense, full-contact sport that can be a great thing to liven things up, but can be exhausting. Injecting the bondage element allows for a longer session that can be taken to different levels that a wild tickle romp can never reach. Neither is better-both are a lot of fun. Just 2 cents...
