Apparantly Tickling Fetishists Are Named Acarophiliacs

The amount of people who possess this fetish in its fullest sense is unknown, but since the advent of the internet there has been a growing online community with the popular Tickling Media Forum having over 48,000 members as of March 2007.

Somebody ought to tell them that we've passed the milestone of 50,000 members now. 😀

I was doing some looking up on wikipedia and noticed that there is a name for tickling fetishists. We are named as acarophiliacs.

Does anyone know when/how this name came about? Is it legit?

I don't know if it's lagit, but it sounds alot better then Ticklepile, thats name has always bugged me. Now I know what the "proper" term is I never want to see that name used again. I am and Acarophiliac, and it sound much better.

why does it have to have some "medical" name? why can't we be tickle lovers? why does it even have to have a label at all. i'm not a ticklephile or an acarophiliac. i'm just a woman who likes to be tickled. this is such a fun activity we engage in that i don't think it needs a lable. but if you really wanna find out then that's cool too. :feets:

Aurora you can call it what ever you like. I just have never liked the use of the word with phile in it. It make it sound like something dirty, and illigal even, like pedaphile *shivers*. If there is going to be a "standered term" used I would wrather it be acarophiliac, or even knismolagnia if that is the proper name. But if you just want to call youself a tickle lover then go right ahaead, you can tickle love me anytime 🙂

I'm with you on that one, I hate the term 'ticklephile', it smacks of weirdness!

I agree totally, I don't want any kind of scientific label either, it's just something to enjoy and indulge in . . . if you're lucky anyway! But I absolutely don't like the term 'ticklephile', it just sounds really weird and creepy . . . just my opinion! 🙂

I'd rather be called a ticklephile, lover of tickling,
as opposed to anything which means that tickling
is a fetish for me, because it isn't.

Call it what you want...

... and get called what you will. But anybody calls me a ticklephile again and I'll tell them where to go.

I think the original point of all labels has been to help make communication more efficient (for example, it's quicker to call someone a "atheist" than a "person who doesn't believe in God"). Labels seem to become a hindrance, though, when they fail to point accurately to the concept they're meant to describe (as when a religious person presumes that no atheist could have a moral centre).

"Ticklephile" literally does mean "tickling lover." It's possible one might think a "ticklephile" is contemptible because they've heard the word "pedophile," but that's purely a case of association.

There are "bibliophiles" who love to read, and "audiophiles" who like sitting right in the middle of theatres to fully enjoy the sound. There are tons of others, too.

So you do NOT love tickling?

I think that most people here fit that description,
whether they like the word or not, especially if
they consider tickling a fetish for them.

I don't care what they call me as long as I can tickle & be tickled. As for the rest, that scientific word, Achacoucaracha, sounds like a bug collector. Ticklephile is cool with me. <<<<----
