It's a ticklish situation so I posted this possible discussion in the "Tickling Discussion" section.

I mentioned that this word was used in a post to Myriads, "Tzar of the TMF" and he said this is decided on a case by case basis and that there are valid times for use of this word and other objectionable words so they don't use a banned word list.

Zing.

I don't believe in banning words. If somebody says something you find offensive, tear him/her a new one and let him/her know exactly why he/she's a shitty person.

I would certainly raise an eyebrow or perhaps a finger if I saw somebody here call another a "******."

In this thread:

Tickling Discussion
Tickling between total strangers

this is probably better off in the true story section...

OT : the dude playing who got all lary... you should of slapped him straight across his face, pure ******!

I'd probably think less of you. But I wouldn't throw a hissyfit.

Since you asked, I'm totally OK with the word ******.

But I generally try to go with something a little less inflammatory, such as pole smoker or bone smuggler.

Do you find the the "n-word" OK?

A better question might be,"Why would you ever have any need to use the word?"

If you're not part of the solution, you're the precipitate.

I agree. I just don't think asking authorities to censor is a solution.

Hissyfit is absolutely not a prejudiced term, unless I'm deeply confused about its meaning or origin. The fact that it's sometimes used to refer to any given group doesn't make it inherently discriminatory.

No, I'm not okay with the N-word. Nor am I okay with the word ******. I just don't support banning words that I'm not okay with.

I'm also against censorship but on the other hand I have four fingers and a thumb.

Noooo wait!

On the other hand the use of such words are making the TMF the preserve of us straights, making all others feel unwelcome.

Trying to figure out all the possible things that would make make which people feel unwelcome, then asking the moderators to enforce language rules, is an impossible and misleading task.

The real solution is to make it clear to anyone who might be affronted by prejudiced terms that we don't support it. Call people out when they do it. Be sure to be inclusive and welcoming in your own threads. Create a positive space with your own actions. Don't appeal to the mods to enforce attitudes and viewpoints.

I used to not be bothered by the word ******, but then someone said it, and I felt like asking one of my gay friends if it offends him and he said yes, so I started having a problem with that word.

Haven't read the entire thread, but in response to the original question, NO, definitely not cool.

I have no problems with the word but I wouldn't go about using it. That's just me though. There are more effective ways to get a message across outside of using inflammatory remarks such as said word.

Unless you're talking about smoking a cigarette, then no. And even then, it's kind of annoying.

you didn't mention what context...the word is to be used,...you could be talking about a British meat ball commonly made with pork,..i see no problem there .

I have a couple of cents that I'd like throw at the issue. The previous comments all reak of te stench of lack of ability to "man up". In fact that pharse clearly goes over thieir puerile minds. The word of the day is not in my lexicon and so I have no feelings related to it in the slightest but it does fall into the category including the infamous "n" word. Again, the pathetic lightwights feel obligated to draw that pharse into the same diatribe. I guess when there is a lack of spine on the part of the author the safest and testosterone lacking respone is alwalways the politically correct response. And educated individual with a spine as well as the ability to think for themselves would realize the strong-armed tactics of other races and the indisputable fact that this only racial term to be so designated as to not even be able to elucidate the word does nothing butmake the n-word term more effective and impactful and as this country is an amalgamation of various races there is only one derogative term deemed so offensive that fear grips the testicles of the weak causing them to choke on the word. What about all the other races (and each has enjoyed the blessings of their own respective slur but yet do not enjoy the benefit of their own derogatory crypic). The "N" word does nothing but promote group think and highlight the lack of consideration, protection from harrassment, and the simple tacit that their cultures are as venerated and respected by this country to the same extent as black enjoy.

All words have a connotation to them. Nothing to really make a fuss over.

Dunno why you would feel the need to post about a bundle of sticks, though? Surely nobody could object to a set of twigs?

Etc~

The word ******, and other "objectionable" terms, are often used in jest and would be less offensive in that context. (ie - My brother and I often affectionately call one another "bitch".) However, I personally try to avoid using them in venues such as this to err on the side of caution for the sake of those who could potentially be offended. Some may call that being PC. Frankly, I don't give a rats tail about being PC. It's about showing compassion towards others...something that too many people don't seem to care about.

This.

So basically just watch the context in which it's used. i.e. What Myriads said.

Not sure why it's even a discussion. 😛

Words such as this are used for "shock" value and nothing more and show the ignorance and lack of respect that the user has,,,

place the member in question on ignore and forget about him....He isnt worth the time wasted on him...
