There's a story about the three Slade brother's who were crewman for the Titanic . As I remember the story going the three brother's went to the local pub with three other crewman . The time came to leave and they were a bit behind , as they were coming up to the shipyard a train came up and the three crewman crossed in front of it while the three Slade brother's waited for it to go by . When the train finally passed the brother's found that the gangplank had been pulled up and they couldn't get back on Titanic for it's Maiden voyage ....... Can this be seen as something that was meant to be , that if not for the train and their dicision not to cross they may have lost their lives . PS .. Have some things in your life seemed without a doubt that they where meant to be ?

Yes Danny, some things to seem meant to be.... Its funny how sometimes things will happen and you get so pissed that you missed something but later find out there was something bad that happened so you missing it is a good thing in the end. Wish I would have missed my first wedding lmao!

Thanks Tulip , some things are better not happening at all .

I don't necessarily believe in fate, but yeah, there are things that occur that seem like amazing coincidences. For example, the creator of the Family Guy was supposed to be on one of the flights that was hijacked on 9/11, but he was late to the airport and missed his flight.

It does make ya wonder that's for sure.Walyon Jennings was supposed to be on the plane that went down with Buddy Holley on board, and he got bumped at the last minuet.

Final Destination II ..............( a movie )

It seems that preminitions have in the past brough out things that land up being meant to be . To see into the future . I suppose it can help but seems scary as well .

I believe in fate. I might sound as mad as a hatter but I believe that our lives are all planned out for us as soon as we are born and we can't die until we've done what we were put here to do even though no one knows what we are here for. All we can do is live our lives as good honest people and try to make the right decisions, listen to our hearts and our heads. I believe that good things come from bad things. Everything happens for a reason.

I think that "seem" is the operative word here. I know there've been a number of things in my life that seemed to be just meant to be. Whether they actually were or not, is another question. I don't believe in predetermination at all. But, I do believe that some things are meant and that we can cooperate and let them come to pass...with or without being aware of it at the time.

Here's a story for you.

I used to work Sunday Eves. in a little SW Co. Town. After the shift ended@ 11pm Sun , I'd Walk Home on Main St....stop in on my favorite watering hole, Say Hi & head for home further down the road.

This Sunday I stick my head in the door @ 11:15pm & the Bartender on duty is a friend of mine ..."C;Mon, Stick around, there's only 4 other people besides me & I'm Bored Stupid...I still got a couple of Bass Ales on Ice."

I stick around and hadn't even gotten 1/2 the Ale down my gullet when there is a Tremendous Explosion...the Motorcycle Shop down the street had been Blown to Smithereens...Glass all over the street & Masonry blown thru the windows of the Shops opposite...In Short, It LOOKED Like Beruit, or Belfast. :wow:

My heart leaped into my throat when the bartender says to me..."Isn't this the way you usually walk home?" 😱

He was right!!
But for his insistance of my sticking around, I would've been Right In Front of that store when it Blew. :yowzer:

As was revealed in court, the Motorcycle Shop served as a Chop-shop in the Basement AND it was the Traffic stop for a LOT of 'White-Powder'...the shop was torched to cover tracks...and it blew up when a Gas Line Ruptured.
There wouldn't be anything left of me but a greasy spot.

Act of Providence? Guardian Angel? Plain Stupid Dumbass-DoDah LUCK...?
You be the Judge.
ME? I'm gonna have another Bass Ale

BUG :cool2:

I call these "Blessings in disguise" and yes... I have experienced them and believe in them.

o yes definitely some things are meant to be...as all the tragedies of my life have shown me to be a stronger person and not give in to feeling sorry for my self or going insane which could easily happen..

life is random

Life is random. It is in retrospect that we assign "fate" or "preordained" or some other reason that something was "meant to be" and of course often we engage in actions that lead to a precitable conclusion that has nothing to do with fate but our own wisdom or stupidity. We also have feelings of dejavu, of having been or experienced something from before or that we feel something at the exact moment some loved one has a traumatic experience and so on. It has been shown that we use little of our total mind capacity so who knows what synapses are firing off that we are unaware of in our own minds and who knows, perhaps we have the capacity for telepathy and other capabilities that for lack of better understanding we attribute "fate" or some other vague notion. It is just that we aren't yet developed enough to use and be aware and understand all our capabilities.

Only if you believe in such.

Our minds are always looking to find patterns seemingly random things and to simplify very complex things. We tend to settle on very basic ideas and form very simple conclusions (e.g., either it's "good" or "bad"). We tend to connect a few points/events/thoughts that are significant to us, find a relationship between them, and try to generalize it from there (i.e., this applies for all time, all people, all situations, etc.). IMO, it's probably a leftover survival mechanism.

It's hard to say, really. Some things may fulfill a "higher purpose." Other things may just look that way because of the human tendency to find meaning wherever we can (as when we put bears, bulls, and lions in the stars). There's no real way to tell which is which.
