Now that Maniac Tickler and I have broken the silence and announced in the P&R forum that we're of Armenian descent, I'm curious to know who else is. Any more surprises?

I don't know a whole lot about my father's family's pre-migration background, but I know they came to New York almost a decade before the 1915 genocide. (The genocide didn't come from out of nowhere; there were massacres in 1895-96 and in 1909 that were bad enough in their own right, and during these years, it was never safe to be Armenian in Turkey.) When I was born, my father was already past his prime, so I didn't learn much about who the Armenians were until I went to graduate school years later and undertook a research project relating to them. I can't be specific in open forum about what that project was, but I'll share it with interested persons whom I can trust not to be trolls.

So, there's Maniac Tickler and there's me. Anybody else? Just curious.

Well, I'm not Armenian, but I have a lot of friends that are, and I must say- they are one of the nicest people I know 🙂 All of them know how to have fun, they're generous, kind, and the women are excellent cooks. I love Armenian food 😀

BFD. My city has a sizeable Armenian population. Are you an endangered species?

It took me a moment to figure out what BFD meant. I suppose one could say that about any thread that one didn't feel a personal connection with, but the thread wasn't designed to persuade anybody to be interested in anything, so your "BFD" post is a little like seeing a closed door with a sign on it that the chess club is meeting here, opening the door, and calling in that you're not interested in chess.

As a matter of fact we are. im going to write to my senator and ask for reparations for the massacre. hell, i might as well jump on the liberal handout wagon.

No, it's more akin to someone in the chess club walking around going "I'm finally saying it. I'm in the chess club!". If someone made a thread saying "I'm finally saying it, I'm Jewish", most people rightfully would think "snore". Or if I made a thread telling everyone I'm Italian. Even I don't care that I'm Italian. I just enjoy the food.

I think asking if there are Armenian men or women is a perfectly legitimate question. 😀 😀

No, I'm not Armenian. :cheeruptickle:

Well, Maniac Tickler, it looks like we're alone with each other here at the Armenian table.

I feel a little hurt by this comment. If you wish to make a table and exclude everyone EXCEPT Armenians, you may.
However, maniac is a good friend of mine. I don't wish to be excluded.

😀

I'm sorry Helena, that's truly not what I meant. I just meant, it looks like Maniac Tickler and I are the only Armenians. I was also making a wisecrack on Maniac Tickler, because being alone at a table with me is not what he would go out of his way to wish for. (See his reactions in the P&R thread to the revelation that I'm the other Armenian.) So indeed, if there were a table here, your full presence would be much desired. I'd even tickle you!

Ok. All fine. I haven't begun to know you yet, so I didn't understand your sense of humor. If you were teasing maniac in a sarcastic way because you guys are good friends......I couldn't have known that.

I don't really visit P and R very much. It's my least favorite part of this site. LOL

Um... Are you Turkish by chance?

Oh, we're not exactly good friends, but we go back a long way. In any case, we can all be family here.

Macphisto: Neah, I don't think SockTickler is Turkish. He's just reading deeper into my initial post than he needed to. The only reason I hadn't mentioned being Armenian before was that I was a little more paranoid in the past about trolls searching out my real identity, not that I'm famous, but I have made a mark in a few places online with my real name.

Since the question has come up twice (even though SockTickler has already told us that he is of Italian descent, and even though his post was a slam on making a big deal of ethnicity rather than a slam on Armenians), I want to add something: the way to commemorate the Armenian genocide is not to hate Turks. When I am introduced to someone from Turkey, I respond exactly the same way as when I'm introduced to someone from Sweden. Plenty of people of Turkish descent are well aware of the genocide and deplore the Turkish government's denial of it just as much as we do. SockTickler has stated his view and I'm inclined to let sleeping dogs lie when it comes to arguing with him.

I'm still wondering if there are any more Armenians here besides Maniac Tickler and me--just out of idle curiosity.

Well, I didn't mean to imply that. I have no problem with Turks in general, although I would have a problem with one denying this genocide if it came up in conversation.

You know what would be funny? If new2U was Armenian. I can just imagine,MT,WIP,and New sitting around a table. :laughhard:

Kis, that would be three lunatics against one, rationally thinking human being. id never go in there alone. :hmm:

I'm sure Magic Fingers, Don'tAskJustTickle, DaBadger, Mabus, and Jaba would be glad to join you. Then there'd be six of you non-lunatics...or five, depending on your school of thought.

There is much Armenian in this one as well. A good thing, too, as Armenian cuisine is quite delicious (even if I can only make but a few dishes).
