I blog on the Atlanta Journal Constitution website, as I may have posted before. One of their esteemed writers, Mark Bradley, who has been writing for the paper for over twenty years, posted a blog today stating that his feeling is both the Braves and the Phillies are going to make the playoffs, with one as the NL East champ, and the other as the wild card. If anyone knows Mark's style of writing, he is NOT a "hometown" writer, and is very fair in his writing assessment, almost to the point of negativity, and cynicism. At the beginning of this season, he predicted the Braves to finish in third place, a prediction I love to razz him about on a regular basis, as the Braves keep winning.

So, Mark posted his blog today, which was a very realistic one, I would say, considering the talent on both the Braves and Phillies ballclubs, and how well both teams have played this season. Several idiotic arrogant Phillies fans, instead of conceding that the Braves have played well, and that it is likely the NL East will be decided in September, with one of the teams claiming the NL East, and the other the wild card, came to the AJC site, and were posting things like "The Phillies are going to steamroller the Braves, and win the NL East by at least five to seven games". That would seem an unrealistic prediction, for several reasons. One, the Braves have many more home games left, than road games. Two, they play a lot of games against the weaker teams of the NL East. (The Nationals, The Mets, etc). While I think it highly possible that the Phillies could have a surge, and pass the Braves for the NL East crown, with the Braves claiming the wild card, I dont see a "collapse" as likely, considering how the Braves have played this season, and their remaining schedule.

When the Phillies won the three straight NL East crowns from 2007 to
2009, I was gracious, and didnt post things on the AJC site, about "collapses". It angers me that these Phillies fans refuse to admit that the Braves have had a good season, and may well claim the NL East, or, at least, the wild card, and may well meet the Phillies in the NLCS, to settle things there.

For those who know the schedule, the Phillies and Braves close the season with a three game series at Atlanta. What would serve the Phillies right, is if the Braves won the NL East, by one game, and then if the Braves beat the Phillies in the NLCS. Honestly, I think both teams will make the NLCS, and settle it there, just like the Mets and Braves did in 1999, when the Braves won the NL East, and the Mets won the wild card.

With six weeks left in the season, and the NL East as close as it is, the fans should shut up, enjoy the games, and let the teams settle it on the field.

Some sports fans are just real idiots.

:objection: You are no different than the Phillies fans. Listen to you...arrogant and cocky as well. Fact is, you came out here after the All-Star Game declaring the Braves World Champions. So...before you call other fans idiotic and arrogant...look in the mirror. Because you are acting just like them. People who live in Glass Houses should NEVER throw stones!

You're right. I just looked at the post where I said it. Guilty as charged.

Fact is: Both are good teams. My true feeling is, they will settle it in the NLCS.

I know how you feel, Mitchell, when it comes to arrogant fans. The ones in Philly have a bad rep, but some here in Chicagoland/Milwaukee can be at least as bad at times, if not worse. Every city has them and every sports forum and blogger has them as well.

The important thing is to remember that the fans don't make the team and vice versa. Cheer for your Braves and against the Phillies, by all means. But don't cheer against the Phillies because of some jackass fans or some rivalry that the players probably don't give a crap about. Cheer against the Phillies because they're in the way of your team winning the World Series this year.

Thanks, Backstep. I understand what you're saying.

The fans on the website only mildly annoy me. There is someone who works for me, who is a Phillies fan, and who loves to taunt me when the Braves screw it up. It would be sweet to see the Braves make it, so he could have it stuck to him.

I had hoped that perhaps both teams would make it, with one as the wild card, and one as the NL East champs. With the Braves play lately, I'm not sure that's going to happen.

Now, the Braves go home for a week. Hopefully, they will turn things around. They need to do so, fast, if they want to make the playoffs.

Well, they're still up by 2 or 3 games, right? It's not even September yet; plenty of time left for things to shake up a bit or for your guys to pull ahead.

Right now up by 2, pending outcome of Fillies game tonight. Braves lost a terrible game today. Hopefully, they can shake that off, and play better at home.
