Hi, just wondering for all you out there who are Christian, do you still give up something for lent???

I'm giving up sex or fast food...and as unfortunate as it is I think I'll fare better giving up the sex!!!!!

I don't usually give anything up for Lent. I'm thinking about giving up candles. Well, burning them.

1 word- COFFEE

Even though it is gonna imperil the health of friends, family ,proffs, coworkers and ESP supervisors, I'm going for broke and giving up my beloved coffee(pop too though I don't drink a hell of a lot of that). No more stopping off @ Tim Hortons( for non Canadians of those unfamiliar.. Tim Hortons is the Cnd version of Dunkin Donuts)bleary-eyed in the morning to grab my cup, no more surviving work with a cup of Timmy's by my side. LOL Wonder if I'll make it thru this Lent sane... or if the people who have to deal with me whileI'm off caffine will! LOL

Lent

Well, first off I've decided to give up sex for lent.

Second, to those who aren't Christian. We as Christians are supposed to give up something near and dear to us during the 40 days before Easter, as Christ our Lord fasted for 40 days and 40 nights.

Today we loose Christians try to give something mild up for only a little bit just to attempt to stick to tradition!!!!

I just returned from mass myself. And I'd like to make one more thing clear about Lent. Its not just about giving something up. Its about looking at your life and changing what needs to be changed for the better.

Also, you don't necessarily have to give up something for Lent, but just lessen the usage of it. You could also choose to do something else such as making yourself a more spiritual person in any number of ways. While the emphasis of the season of Lent is to give up something for those 40 days, thats not what you must do. Although it is encouraged to refrain from whatever it is you choose. Then again, giving something up completely for those 40 days surely is a good sacrifice.

I for example am going to start reading more religious material and get back into the good book and pray more, etc. I'm also going to try to cut down on my usage of the internet. I'm on it wayyyy too much.
