And what does that do for you?

Also, if i throw out a realistic figure that 95% of the earths population and some chimps are ticklish, does that make ya feel goody?

I can honestly say I have never done that

Ru, , were I you, I would be extremely careful about doing this. I'm pretty sure I have posted this on here before, but, in an article a couple of years ago called "News Of The Weird", it said that a guy with a fetish for sweaty feet, got a year in jail for phone harrassment, for calling random people up, and asking them if their feet stank.
I could never see just calling a random person up, or walking up to someone I didnt know, and asking them if they are ticklish.
To each his own, but, I thought I would post about what I read.

It's much more fun to be direct and ask someone in person if
they are ticklish. At least that way if they say that they are,
you can tickle them, and see what happens. Plus, you're likely
to only ask people you might actually LIKE to tickle 😉

The only time I can remember even asking someone who wasnt a personal friend, or pen pal, if they were ticklish, was a few summers ago. In this case, the people I asked were two lifeguards, who were sisters, at my complex pool. They had been our lifeguards for several summers. One of the sisters was the guard for a few summers, and then, one summer, her younger sister joined her. (Both were college students, and over 18, so this is legal to talk about) One day, we were sitting around the pool, and, they were teasing each other, not tickling, but just busting on each other. I casually said something like "Oh, when you guys were younger, did you ever beat each other up, and tickle each other". They were very cool about it. The older sister said "Yeah, we tickle each other, but she's more ticklish than I am, so I can get her more easily. My feet are more calloused than hers, and they arent as ticklish". Somehow, while it was a bit awkward talking to them about this, it didnt seem too bad, because, I had basically seen the older sister every evening when I went swimming for like three summers, and I saw her younger sister that one summer each evening, and on the weekends.
Asking someone I know, even somewhat, if they are ticklish? Yes, I've done that. A complete stranger, or calling someone random, and doing it? No thanks.

Well, I definitely think that calling up random people and businesses and inquiring about their ticklishness is a little...well, let's just say "off the mark." Though, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and think that you were just joking about that.

However, in the past I have been a fan of Internet chat rooms, instant messengers, and the like. I haven't used them as much lately, but in the past (when you could actually go into a chat room and find a nice person who didn't have a huge chip on his/her shoulder to chat with) I spent time chatting online with people all over the country and globe. If I felt like it, and we had been been chatting long enough to develop a good convo--and it was a female--I would sometimes pop the "Are you ticklish?" question. Or, I would try to coax it out of her. An example of this would be asking what her biggest weakness was, in hopes that she would answer with "I'm really ticklish."

Other than that, I usually don't ask people if they're ticklish--unless it's a really close friend that I know really well.

I have to agree with Lee here. Why ask someone on the phone that you cannot see and do anything with or do anything about? If you are going to take a poll or survey, do it in person so you can see the reaction and the person you are asking then there is an outside chance you may actually get to tickle people. :bouncybou

Indivision, you were lucky to have been able to ask people The Question in other types of chats, and to have had no consequences from such. When I first got this computer, I went into general AOL chat rooms and asked a few girls. After getting a few annoyed answers, I received a Terms Of Service violation warning from AOL, for "conduct online". After that, I typed in tickling, found TMF, joined, and have not had to discuss tickling anywhere but on this forum ever since.
After reading about the guy who got a year in jail for phone harrassment for asking girls if their feet stank, and after my TOS warning from AOL for asking tickle questions in general chat rooms, it seems to me that tickling chatrooms and forums are the only safe place to ask tickling questions. Other than that, there is always a risk of consequences.

Wow, that would be kind of...um, what's the word? Shocking? Fortunately, that kind of stuff never happened to me. It never really occured to me that there could be any trouble from asking such a question beyond a possible annoyed or freaked out questionee. However, the chatline that I used to go to, Chatalyst (it's not around anymore, I don't think), wasn't moderated, so people could say pretty much whatever they wanted to. I have, however, done this off and on in the Yahoo Chat rooms with no trouble. But, it's only been on a few occasions...and it's only been when a fellow chatter and I have had a conversation of significant length.

However, those violation notices may not have been much to worry about. I think some places will give you one just because someone else reported you. Right now, I like to go to Yahoo Answers quite often, and that's pretty much how it is there. If someone reports your post, you're probably going to get a violation notice---even if you didn't really do anything wrong. It happens a lot in the Religion and Spirituality section. Users will report people if they post something that contrasts with their religious beliefs. It's possible that one of the girls that you chatted with thought you were just some troll out looking for cybersex and reported you (you're obviously NOT a troll looking for cybersex, but a lot of women in chat rooms jump to that conclusion quite quickly). Then, the AOL staff just gave you a violation notice without even looking into the situation, just like the Yahoo Answers staff seems to do. However...I could very well be wrong.

As for the guy who got jail time for calling women and asking them if their feet stank, that's pretty much a whole other issue. In that case, he was calling people up (uninvited) and asking them outrageous questions. Those women weren't wanting or expecting him to call, but he did anyway. In a chat room, people are there because they want to talk to people (presumably, that is), so they really can't complain too much if someone asks them a question they didn't like. I think you CAN get into legal trouble if you harass someone online, but I really doubt anything would happen just over someone asking "Are you ticklish?" If they did try to get the law involved, the law would probably just laugh them off.

I could be wrong, but I really can't see much happening over asking a question like this online, except of course for a violation notice.

You've never had a fulfilling relationship with someone have you?

Didn't think so.

I would take a phone call asking if I was ticklish any day over having a midget randomly start licking my feet and toes.

However, I'd also quickly hang up if some idiot called and asked me that. I strongly suggest finding a different past time.

I'm not too sure why you quoted me.... but alrighty then! 😕

The only other place I would feel comfortable asking someone about their ticklishness, would be in a foot, or other type of, fetish chatroom. For instance, say, it was a foot fetish chatroom, and the subject was feet, and everyone was talking about licking or kissing feet, or sucking on toes, I highly doubt anyone would think much of it, or would get into trouble, if a guy asked a girl:" By the way, if you got your toes sucked, would it tickle?" Or "If someone massaged your feet or your toes, would it feel ticklish?" To me, feet and tickling can go almost hand in hand, at least for some. It is much the same way as we have foot fetishists among our TMF members, including yours truly.
Fetish chatrooms, sure, but calling random people up and asking them, again, no way!
