Im an aquarius, and yes i have a tickling fetish (as well as others), but to think my fetish is the product of my astrological sign? id have to se some proven documentation to believe that.

An interesting "test", of a sort, of how well people feel their horoscope described themselves was conducted a few years ago (well, maybe several years ago, by now), by a couple of skeptical magicians in Australia, if I remember right.

They gave a classroom of college students who claimed to believe in astrology each of copy of his/her horoscope to read based on each student's date of birth (or supposedly). The students were then each asked to rate how well they felt the astrological "profile" "fit" themselves. The overwhelming majority of them felt the descriptions were "very accurate." On first blush, that would make it seem that astrology is a highly accurate "science." However, the testers then "blew the gaffe." They asked each student to exchange his/her horoscope with the person next to him/herself. It turned out that they had all received exact duplicates of the same horoscope. And of course they weren't all born under the same "sign." Oops....

Astrology, on some levels, can actually be pretty accurate, if you study them enough. I hold a lot of resemblance to the typical Capricorn. I notice traits like that among other TMFers and my friends.

As for ticklishness, I couldn't tell you off hand. I'm sure a study could prove one way or another. While genetics holds a hand in, well, everything, I wouldn't rule astrology out completely.

Perhaps I should have posted my above response to you instead, your apparently being at least a "borderline believer", but I hadn't yet noticed your post.

In fact, while it's not hard for people to subjectively feel that astrology is "accurate", based on the above described test and quite a few others, theres been no objective evidence to show that its "accuracy" is any more than psychological in nature. That is, if you believe it, and look for the character traits which seem to fit yourself (most of which, in fact, are shared by everyone to some extent), then it's bound to subjectively appear accurate. The fact that horoscopes are typically written in such a way as to sound mostly flattering (although not quite enough so as to make it sound that they'e describing someone completely "flawless", for the sake of "credibility") is one of the tricks used to make them persuasive.

But given the lack of objective evidence to support its claims, in conjunction with the fact that there's no particularly "coherent" theory to even explain how it's supposed to work, there's really nothing to distinguish it from any other ancient superstitious "hocus pocus." You may as well throw salt over your shoulder or knock on wood or any number of other spells guaranteed to bring good luck.

Hmm, I wonder. Since certain signs "control" certain areas of the body (Mine, Taurus, is the neck, for instance - Scorpio being the naughty bits, Pisces for feet, etc.) are people with that sign more likely to be ticklish there...?

But I do all those things naturally too, and I'm apparently a Pisces.

Perhaps it's not at all to do with astrology, and more to do with upbringing?

wow thats an excellent question. i've never thought of that before. i would say yes, since it supposedly contributes to personality maybe generally it could have an effect. who knows!
