Aurora, CO - Gunman slays 14 during midnight show of The Dark Night Rises

Some guy in an Aurora theater complex came in wearing a gas mask. He detonates a canister of some kind, probably tear gas; pulls out a gun and starts shooting people.

Thankfully, the guy is in custody. This just happened a few hours ago, so more information will doubtlessly emerge.

People are out here losing their minds and making all sorts of excuses for it. I've grown tired of weak minded individuals letting the tv or the movie tell them what to do. It's beyond any logic or rational sense to me.

The UK news channels over here have pretty much got non-stop live coverage of this horrific event, sad and unbeleivable to see their are nutters about who can commit such drastic acts of terror. Hope all fellow TMF-ers in that area are safe and well

I'm just now finding out a few things about this since I just got up. This was obviously a seriously screwed up individual with no connection to reality, without the ability to reason between right and wrong. Nobody in their right mind would do this.

Anyone who tries to tie this to any faction or political side for sensationalism's sake is a piece of crap. Left or right. Let the police do their jobs.

I love movies, and especially midnight showings of new films on occassion. This could easily have been in MA at a theatre near me. I don't think the shooter has any idea of the impact this will leave on so many people and their families.

Death Penalty? I wouldn't waste five cents of taxpayer money housing him, or a trial. Sometimes wild west justice has its place.......hang him high in the public square and drop his arse in a hole in the ground. He really doesn't even deserve that after what he's done.

I was going to bring this up but someone beat me to it. Heard about this on the news yesterday. It really upset and disturbs me that someone could do this at a movie theater of all places. It's like we have to start putting metal detectors in all major places, maybe we should begin doing that & he had his apartment booby trapped with a bomb inside. He's in police custody right now. I also heard that since he was dressed like the character Joker, that anyone dressed up in costume in a theater will be questioned and/or asked to leave. If they don't cooperate, they will be given a refund.


I makes you wonder, where is it safe anymore? I mean over the last decade or so, there have been shootings in schools, malls, other places and now in a movie theater. Hope that someone doesn't copycat what this guy did .

Paris cancelled it's midnight premiere and 59 people were injured, He claims he was the joker and he dressed up exactly like Bane , the villian of the third movie. He also booby trapped his entire apartment.

^I understand there are to be more police patrols at theaters showing this movie, and some movie theaters will not allow people to dress in costumes.^

The man threw some tear gas in first,then came in wearing a gas mask. I have gone through a tear gas chamber when I was in the military. Do you know what happens when you come into contact with tear gas,and you do not have a gas mask on?

Your eyes tear up real bad. Bad enough where you can't see properly.
Snot drips and runs out of your nose.
If you drank milk before you come into contact with tear gas,chances are you will throw up.

A crossfire would have complicated things majorly. There might have been more casualties. Now, if there'd been a few armed guards on the scene who knew what to do in this situation...(real ones, not semi-competent rent-a-cops).

Anyway, I can just see movie theaters all over the land of the once-free going all Homeland Security, with metal detectors and shit. I can just see politicians pushing more repressive laws, for our own good.
